My first visit to IKEA yesterday...

So my family decided to drive down to Ikea. Its a 2.5 hour drive, so we made it a half day adventure.

I was impressed with the way the place worked. Tons of stuff, great ideas and concepts. I thought it was going to be just furniture, but they have food, odds and ends, kitchenware, appliances etc. etc.

I found it annoying that we had to snake our way through the entire damn place to get to the end, but oh well. We ended up spending $330 on stuff, including some dishware, a glass doored bookcase and other odds and ends.

We ended up having dinner there for $46, and they said that it would be taken off our bill (they were running a special that runs through the 9th)..

Overall impressions: great place, hard to walk through, a worthwhile visit!

I think the closest Ikea to where I live is about 90 minutes away. I used to work with a guy who made ritual Ikea trips and bragged about it like it was something special. I never understood it. :|

I was pretty impressed first time I went to IKEA. The place is huge and you can get some good design ideas for small areas. Everything in my daughter's room was bought at IKEA except for her bed which we bought at Costco. It's good place to buy simple/clean disposable furniture. After couple years of use, you can throw it away without the feeling of guilt.

The food court at IKEA is pretty good and cheap. Can't go wrong with Swedish meatballs.

Visited the nearest IKEA (Bolingbrook, IL), 15 miles away. I've been there about 3 times so far and crowded as usual. Place is designed that way so customers are forced to go around the whole store and see everything. Cheap furniture, not impressed myself but my sisters are. Most of their stuff comes from that IKEA. Ended up buying a desk lamp that had a good price. :\

I'm a fan of Ikea. I haven't been there much, or recently, but I've always been very happy with quality/price of their stuff.

Ikea is great for 18-35 year olds or so, if you are 35+ and find yourself regularly buying Ikea furnishings for your home, you probably need to reevaluate your life, you should have enough income and enough self respect that you will be buying REAL furniture by this point in time.
Anyone 18-35 though, just moving out or still finding their place in the world, Ikea shit is fine. Just dont expect it to last too long.

Ah yes, IKEA, the adult version of LEGO. I love buying stuff I buy from IKEA, and building them by myself. Because if anybody tries to help, they'll just fuck it up.

Now that they have the "damaged" section, it's awesome. We bought a $300 dresser for $90. The box was banged up and there was a ding on one of the pieces of wood that was apparent. The guy said it was one of the walls of the dresser, so no one wanted to buy it. We decided to take a risk. we bought it home and found out that the ding was just a small scrape on the ceiling of it and one door, nothing that would compromise the integrity of it.
