So last week I witnessed a pretty brutal fight outside my apartment, some kid decided to get in a fight with another kid and of course one drew a knife and ended up cutting the other guy up. Anyways they both came out of the apt above mine, and i was the guy that called the cops, so now I'm the guy they look to to kick these people out. They've subpoenad me to testify against the person that lives in the apartment so they can kick her and her friends out. This is just the civil case...i imagine in a few weeks they'll be the trial for the guy that did the stabbing now too :?
Does anyone know what goes on in these sort of hearings? I've been to criminal trials, been to civil traffic court, but never as a witness that had to testify. Is it like other trials where probobly just end up sitting there only not to testify?

Being a direct witness to the actual crime and the guy who called the cops, you will probably have to testify, your best bet is to just to explain what happend as clearly and objecivly as possible.

Not necessarily. I was the victim of a crime and I was served with a subpoena, and I didn't have to testify. I just sat at one of the benches where people watch. I didn't even see the "accused" people.

Nice avatar, HardwareJim. If you placed that there yourself, I suggest removing it immediately. But for all intents and purposes...a subpoena is served by the police, which states that, by law, you must show up for a hearing.
