My first Non-Gateway Custom PC - Comments and Insight Please

I re-iterate the suggestion for going for the 4400+ - there's only a 200mhz difference so even if you're not overclocking you won't notice any difference. Your pocket will notice a difference however .

I might choose a different case - Antec, Lian-LI or Silverstone - any with 120mm fans for quiet cooling.

A sound card might be an idea if you're any sort of audiphile - the Audigy 2 ZS would be an excellent choice.

Other than that perhaps a different hardrive (Hitachi 250GB/Seagate 200GB 7200.7/Samsung Spinpoint 250GB) depending on what you want, but that isn't a biggie.


Also if stuck for a PSU, Tagan is an excellent choice you end up choosing a case like the Antec P180 due to its fan placement (choose the 530W unit). Also, others like Seasonic and then Enermax and Fortron/Sparkle if you're happy to go with dual-rails. Antec I've had crap out on me or at least doesn't seem in the same league as the aforementioned ones.

oh yeah, the LG 4163 burner is the best. I do quality scans with Nero Cd-Dvd Speed and that burner rocks with Taiyo Yuden 8x dvd+r which also happens to be Sony Dvd+r's you see in stores all the time.. It can burn it at 12X without extra errors. I still get near perfect quality scores of 98 or 99 when overspeeding.

so forgot about the nec 3540. it's a mediocre drive. people give great comments on newegg cuz they make a dvd and it works afterwards so they're happy. but if it has too many errors that same dvd will degrade and stop working

So did ya really order this up with an Athlon X2 DUAL core and Windows XP HOME Edition??
