My first movie shoot is in the can!

I'm not sure if anyone cares.. I posted about my idealistic film production project here and just wanted to let everyone know that our first group production just wrapped on Sunday and the shoot was a complete success! Sure, the finished product may look like crap (I'm not sure yet - we haven't edited it) but we worked together as a team towards a common goal.. One day we'll make films that don't suck..
Here's a pic of my sexy crew (I'm the non-sexy indian guy in the back)
Another crew pic (in color)
Amanda looking very dedicated
Our Project's Official Site
Funny outtake from the production (our actor gets his nose ring ripped out)
The script

(I've actually directed around 6 short films so this isn't my first shoot -it's my first shoot as a part of this collective)

I didn't take the picture - I did wonder why she took it in black and white, Agnes looks much better in color (the actress on the right) 😉

Decent work.

What's your camera?

Post production equipment/software?

a $200 JVC camera (and a backup low end sony).... Our equipment is terrible (our audio gear is decent though)... I edit on Vega video and FCP4 and tweaked the footage using After Effects and Magic Bullet.

Crappy JVC's and Sonys aren't anywhere near as crappy as you think. They're actually more versatile than the larger cameras as far as low budget movies go.

One bit of advice - build a dedicated video editing rig. Boot and applications on one, smaller drive, and your content on the biggest drive you can afford. Throw in a $130 DVD burner and a $30 Firewire card (DO NOT TRUST ONBOARD STUFF), and a cheapie Radeon AIW if you need analog video inputs. An XP2000 with 512mb of RAM on an nForce 1 can handle this all just fine. Also, invest in a steadytracker if you havn't already. Basically a handheld tripod that keeps the camera oriented properly. It does wonders for moving-camera shots.

Good advice man, here's my editing rig so far:
P4 2.4b
2x80 7200 seagate hard drives
Radeon AIW (classic radeon)
512mb ram
Dedicated firewire card

Mac
Dual G4 1 ghz
1gb ram
GeforceMX
standard firewire port

I have a Glidecam 2000 - it's like a steadicam but pretty affordable

Any other advice? I'm going to reconfigure my windows system's hard drives in a bit to reflect your suggestion

I'm sorry - but the thread topic immedaly made me think that you were actually filming a movie about toilets or bathrooms or something. 😕
