I got lucky when the website randomly selected me to recieve a 10% discount on top of the sale (original price is $169.99). This sale ends on 1/26/02, so ACT NOW!

I had a Sears gift card that I wanted to use towards the purchase of this DVD player, so I added the item to my cart (on the sears.com website) and made sure it included the 10% discount. Then I went to my local Sears (check to make sure they're in stock by typing in your zip code and clicking on the link) and showed them the Sears.com price. The B&M had the same DVD player at the original price of $169.99 and they graciously gave me the sale price AS WELL as my 10% discount price.

I suppose you can try deleting your cookies every time you access the sears.com site to try to get a random coupon (I didn't do that, it popped up on my first visit), but I don't know if that's how it works. Anyway, here's the text right off the website (and sorry, I couldn't find ANY reviews for this DVD player, but for a progressive DVD player that plays MP3s, VCDs, and has component/digital audio out, it's a STEAL):

Fisher Single Disc DVD Player, with Progressive Scan and CD-R/RW/VCD/MP3 Playback

Plays CD/CD-R/CDRW and MP3 media

Nice find, but damn that thing is ugly. Whose color are they trying to match?? These prog scans will all be around that price within the next few months.... so if you can wait for a better brand, would be better to hold off.

I know Fisher has been a Sears 'house brand' for many years, but does anyone know if this is a rebadge of another company? Haven't heard too much about the Fisher brand as far as quality goes.

take a look at the Panny RP-56. It's supposed to be one of the best progressive scan players bc of the Faroujda chipset they use. It's about $220 at Best buy this week. We got it using the Amex blue card then pricematched to etronics.com at $182. So it ends up being about $30 more than the deal here, but from all the research I did, it came out on top of more expensive players. And it wasn't something we plan on replacing in the next couple of years, so I hope the extra quality sound/picture is worth the few extra dollars.

haha. I had never heard of Fisher before so the first thing that came to my mind when I read the subject line was "Fisher Price."

Hot Deal on a toy DVD player for 1-3 year olds. hehe.

Fisher was the last American made electronics (TVs, stereos) manufacturer. Back in the 70s a lot of people would only buy Fisher for that reason. Good quality back then, but pricey and the Japanese electronics industry sunk them. Americans designed the TV and VCR, and not one is made in the USA any more.

Both dimwit and that "copycat" Kato are correct on this one.
Anyone know which DVD player has the longest warranty?

Fisher has been around for years and years.I bougt a top of the line Fisher VCR 20 years ago.It was over $1000,and the biggest piece of crap!I would buy an Apex before buying a Fisher! I will stick with Pioneer.
My DV444 plays it all,is progressive scan also.I paid under $200 after rebate.

Buying a Fisher is a crap shoot. Sanyo makes some decent stuff but ususally has at least one shortcoming. Progressive Scan is plunging in price. Better to spend another $30 or wait another month.

Well, sears.com has the RP56 for $229. I believe they pricematch most reputable online stores, for those with the without-amex blue blues...

We own a samsung right now and I tell you guys, it is the worst dvd player. It actually stops playing DVDs after a while, and it even will quit on you in the middle of the movie!

It's not a progressive, nor does it play mp3s, so I figured this fisher was a shot. Hell, if it sucks, then I'm returning it. But I'll find out when my dad's B-day rolls around next week.

This DVD player is really sharp looking. It has a silver color finish and it matches our VCR and HDTV perfectly! The quality is noticeably better than our crappy samsung.

Well, I'm happy...
