** getting sleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeepy **

Not really, but I did start a new position today, and this really is my first graveyard shift. Did you guys find it hard to adjust? (assuming you are working right now)

I usually stay up late every night anyways, so I don't think i'll have much problem staying up until 6AM EST. :D

For those that work this shift, do you usually sleep in the morning? Or do you stay up, do stuff in the morning and THEN go to bed and sleep until the evening?

That would be a perfect shift for me....I'm naturally nocturnal.

Go home, eat breakfast and go to sleep.

It's cool because you'll probably drive in the opposite direction of traffic when you go home. And all those clowns have to go to work when you're about to sleep.

I've got a Tim Hortons coffee ( :disgust: ) right now, so that should do the trick for now. I drink lots of water anyways, so keeping hydrated shouldn't be a problem. :)

Warm in the afternoon? You do realize i'm a Canuck right? :Q (-10C is the high temp for tomorrow :D)

I'm thinking so too.

I hate getting up in the morning.

Thanks for the welcome.

I'll get home around 7AM, so i'll probably have a snack and laugh at my roommate who will be heading to work at about that time.

I did it for 7 years. II worked from 11:30 till 6:30. Went to bed at 8 or so and got up at 3 and stayed up till I went to work again. It was great till we had kids, then it got tough. But we worked 6 1/2 hours and got paid for 8 so it was a good deal. Now with all the lay offs I'm back on swing shift because they got rid of grave yard.

HAHA I used to work on some remote cellular towers and I would be heading out of town on a deserted highway and watch the steady stream of headlights coming toward me. Loved that.

Swing = rotating shift?

I think this is going to work out well for me, as I found that working evenings it was difficult to motivate myself to do anything. At least now I can go grab dinner with my friends or catch a flick before I go to work.

I worked the graveyard shift at a winn-dixie when I was in high school, then we got robbed, then I got stuck in a cooler for an hour, then I quit.

it was interesting to say the least. It was also summer, so I was wearing shorts and a t-shirt. It is just insane that we were there an hour and no one even knew. We finally got fed up and busted out after an hour. The crooks were long gone with like $35,000 from the safe. Something interesting is that the papers said that they got away with register money, nothing big. But they really got in the safe, It made me stop to wonder how much they actually get right in reporting, don't believe everything you read, even something as simple as that.

I work 2nd's (4PM-12) I always thought it would be cool to work 3rds for a while. I remember way back when I was in high school, seeing the 3rd shifters going to the bar when I was going to school in the morning. What a trip that would be, drinking at 7AM

i don't mean "hydrated"
*looks at the bottle of castillo silver on his desk*
and warm is a relative term.

Depending on the work I think I would like working the graveyard shift. I have done it before, but I was doing a lot of manual labor and I would get real tired at about 4 or 5 in the morning. If I was doing some kind of office work or computer related work I think it would suit me well. When I did work graveyard I noticed that hardly anyone was there. So people didn't have to worry about the big whigs stopping by. We still had to do our work, but it was more mellow.

graveyard would have been too tough for me. I worked for a little more than a year, up until today actually, swing shift, 4p.m to 1 a.m. which was perfect for me. I'm nocturnal to a point, I like to go to bed around 4 or 5 a.m., not 8 a.m. I could get up at 11 or 12 and maybe get some errands done before work, or I could sleep 9+ hours and wake up at 2p.m. then eat and go into work. I never had to use an alarm, I was never tired, because I slept as much as I wanted, I could run errands when I wanted to.

I just started Noon to 9 pm, which isn't too bad, but I can't really do much of anything after work, except eat, and go to the gym. My huge bonus is that I can now go out Friday nights, which I was unable to do before, because getting off at 1 means at the quickest getting to a bar a last call. I also get to interact more with the day shift people, which would help me to advance in my position and take on more responsibility.

Did someone say my name? I was hired for Sam's Club overnight team, but never got around to it. I would've enjoyed it, I think. I never had a job where I had to stay up all night. N8, if you don't mind me asking, what exactly do you do?

I work for the telco up here. I used to work with the Nortel DMS-100 and all of it's associated equipment (voice switching), but because of some changes in the district I had the opportunity to move to another department.

I now work with all of the ATM equipment that the company has. This includes equipment from Alcatel, Nortel Networks and Cisco. There really is a great deal of information to learn, but hey... that's why I transferred here. :)
