Well, I've acquired a Powerbook, the Adobe Creative Suite, and a 6 x 8 Intuos Tablet this summer but I've yet to do anything spectacular with it, so lately I've been working on a pic to basically see what I can actually do. Besides stupid JRun photochops and such I've never done anything too serious on a computer, so this is all new territory for me. Anywho, here is what I got:

Pic Original size 2400 x 3000

To all you veteran digital artists, any helpful hints or perhaps links to some tutorials on brushes. They are driving me nuts.

I just sit back, fire up some good music, and have at it. When doing pictures for myself I hardly ever know what I'm going to end up with when I start. I just sketch, and if something tickles my fancy I work on it. I'm trying to break this though, and start planning out my pictures. School is forcing me to plan out my ideas and composition, which is definitely better than just diving straight in.

Looks good except it just appears that you made the background, then pasted the body there and the head ontop of it. Doesn't look like one "real" figure. Too easy to see the layers is basically what I mean.

It might also appear that way because the head is much more detailed than the rest of it. Kind of looks like a head floating in the rest of the picture to me.

Apparent lighting kind of looks funny too.. like it is coming from a few different directions, but in different areas :)

You can criticize any picture on a million levels, though.

Yeah, I noticed that as well. I tried to ground it more on the body so to speak but it still needs a little work.

I did the head one night, waited about a week, then came back and did the body. I'm probably going to go in and crisp up the suit some more, add some texture to the tie and possibly some pin stripes just to have something going on in that black. I spent much more time on the head than the body, but I just got so sick of it that I said "That's it, it's done." and called it quits. :p
