huh...sorry to hear that! And I'm currently at work about 10 minutes away from where your card was used. But how weird, an even $2000 at a retail store? Gift card, perhaps?

I actually had my MBNA card stolen 3 weeks ago in NYC, and they had no problem refusing a $1000 and a $500 charge...don't know why your situation is different.

I was actually $1974 and some change. Somebody bought a washer and dryer.

was it delivered? seems to me this company would have a slam dunk if they just figure out where it was delievered to and question those people. but this is just an assumption

I agree, about it being nice to have that, but if they are giving me a hard time over $2000 how would it be for $20,000. Like I said, it will probably end up fine but they pretty much sent me all the proof that was needed to settle the dispute, than asked me to send it back to them and tell them in writing that I am not Eric Jackson, which was basically what I sent them in my first written dispute.

Yeah, it sounds like you will be fine. Keep in mind, that while it seems like a hassle to send another letter, if the cc company removed charges with just the request of one letter, then everyone would do it. This is just their way of CTA (covering their a$$).

Don't know if it was delivered or not. Seeing the other guy's name imprinted on the receipt I think it was just a screw up somewhere in the system. If you stole or had access to a card would you sign your name or the name on the face of the card? Also, I'd buy something much cooler than a washer and dryer!!

agreed. maybe the two accounts got linked up somehow, because it seems like a legitamate purchase, nothing extravagant like a laptop or MP3 player or something. Unless.........

new thief A: man, just stole this credit card, think i might get that washer for the house the wife has been harping about.
new theif B: dude, just get the whole combo, you're worth it.
new theif A: you know what? you're right.

So all a person needs to complete a cc transaction is a number and exp date? Or how does that all work?

I wouldn't rant too soon. Chances are that they will drop the charges as soon as they receive your written testimony.

I hope you're right but this is the second written dispute on this matter as well as 5 phone calls now. Definately alot of work for something that appears to be so obvious.

well it isn't so obvious. They have to cover their butts.

They're creating a document trail so the they CAN elmininate the charge.

I'd put my money on a screwup - I'd be uber difficult to make a card with all your info and different name in a physical form (including the hologram, mag stripe etc) and then use it to buy something easily tracable like that. Not to mention Bloomfield hills is very very rich area (cough*evilyoda*cough), the last place a cc thief woulda been buying stuff.

I got ripped off by an Ebay seller $450. The guy never sent the item and is no -longer a registered user.
Good thing i used my MBNA plat MC through Paypal.
Had to write them a letter explaining my sitiuation and a lsy called me from MBNA.
She asked me one signle question :Did u ever receive the item?"
I told her no and the next they i had $450 credit. No complaints with MBNA.

I truly despise MBNA's business tactics. Ever notice how it takes them 3 business days to process an online payment where DiscoverCard takes 1 (if you submit before 2pm that day) ? Ever notice how the default pay date is the day it's actually due ? Ever notice how they change the date it is due every month so if you had reminders on a 30-day schedule, you're screwed ?

I despise them... my other CCs are 10x less shady.

This is exactly what happened to me back in 1992. The card had my credit card number only. The name and expiration date were different.

The turkey charged a little over $5000 to my account in about 2 days.

I don't remember which company handled the card but it took me several months to get it straightened out however all it cost me was a $10 Notary fee.

Dealerships typically will only let you put $2500 or so on a credit card. I know, I tried. :( They don't want to pay the fees.

I have $29000 on MBNA and $25000 on First Visa.. :)

The most I've ever had on either card is about 4000 for six months.. I don't know why the limits are so high, but whatever...

No, not really.. every credit company has similar incident or problem.

Amex had an db error, they cross someone in califorina with my account in NY, their REP's first thing was you charged it you owe us 10 grand. Im like wtf, get me someone else you crazy motherfocker, some manager came online and told me there was an db error and they're retracting all the mistakes.. this idiot came on and accuse me of charging 10 grand with out even hearing my side of the story.
