my first comp joystick in 10 years...

okay well ive been F'in with computers indepth for about 10 years now, and ive ALWAYS been the mouse and KB guy, no matter what game. i once owned a joypad but that didnt last very long and was pre win95...


now that i cant fly as fast as others using a stick, im going to have to break down and get one lol... i cant stand dying


i end up having to lift the mouse and start moving it again to swing a hard long turn, where with a stick u would just keep it in one corner....


now! what do you guys think is the best joystick for flying in this game (i doubt it'll be used on others, but who knows maybe ill fall in love lol) i dont care much about price, but im not a tiny weeny 12 year old comp geek, so it will have to fit normal/large hands.

Saitek if you are starting out and trustmaster if you plan on getting down with flight sims.

Yeah, the search function blows right now. I don't yell at people when it's a repost now.

Also, these were both in peripherals, so if you were searching in GH you wouldn't have found them.

I'm thinking about getting a new joystick too because the fvckers at Microsoft decided not to make XP drivers for their own Microsoft Sidewinder2 joystick.

Do you have problems with using a Microsoft Sidewinder joystick with XP? I don't. I have the old Force Feedback one that would connect through a game port and also one which connects through the USB and they both work exactly as intended. WinXP picked them right up without any drivers needed to be installed.

I would give my vote for the MS Sidewinder Force Feedback stick. I haven't tried alot of other sticks, but I know several people who have the MS one and it works great. I'm a stickler for options, look and feel too so I wouldn't have bought another one if I didn't like the first. I can bank and turn in BF1942, and my friend plays BF2 with his MS Sidewinder stick too (since I can't play it properly until I get a different vid card).

I Have a Microsoft Flight stick USB older one I got about 3 years ago works good, I used it for BF & BVF and I pretty much suck with it still, I Have to play the game straight flying for like 2 hours before I get good !

I think thoose other guy's might be using Gamepads or Mouse's you might want to ask someone thats really good at flying what they use first if I get back into thoose game or BF 2 I'm going to try my Gamepad for abit some says it's better.

My dad uses a Thrustmaster "Top Gun Fox2 Pro" USB joystick which we both like a lot. I don't play any flight sim games (although I'm gonna have to when I get BF2).

XP detects it, but I can't reassign the buttons, so it's useless for the games I want to play on it.

Hmm...weird.

I can use my MS Sidewinder FF2 joystick just fine in BF2 in XP Pro. When you go into Control Panel --> Game Controllers, is it listed, and when you do the tests does anything register?

are you meaning in BF2 Demo you can't reassign the buttons? Because I have a MS Sidewinder USB and I have troubles setting the bottons in the demo to !

it keeps saying the botton is in use already, sometimes.

lol, Im a big fan of flight sims and bf2.....and I can tell you right now, bf2 is sooo much simpler then a flight sim. If you can nail takeoffs/crusing/approach/landing with a flight sim (takes a little while to do mind you) your golden for bf2. Enjoy =D

If WinXP detects your stick, you should be able to assign buttons from the control interface within the game. My friend has BF2 and the same stick as me and it works fine for him. I've never had any problems setting the buttons within the control interface in any game that I've tried either.

You should be able to go in and once you reassign a button, just push one of the buttons on your stick, or rotate the stick and what not to give it the various control functions of the game.
