My First Case Mod

Well, I just finished my first case mod. It is nothing great but I made it and I am proud of it. I never do anything at all with tools so this was quite an interesting experience for me. I cut three holes for the fans (2 on top, one on the side), cut the side panel for a window, cut the window, glued the window in there, and put some light in there. I made the pictures now during the day so it does not look as cool as it does at night. At night the red is REALLY bright and you can also see the 2 blue LEDs, that are in each case fan, much better. I might paint the case sometime in the future.

What tool did you use to make such relatively smooth cuts? Dremel?

Yes, I used a Dremel with those reinforced cutting wheels (fiber...). Took me a while though because I was totally scared to mess it up.

I think it looks pretty damn cool. I'm going to pick up a Lian PC61 soon, but I have no dremel. Anyone tried one of those nibbler tools?

I cut my window out with a jig saw. Worked like a charm. I'll post some pictures of it soon.

Good job dude. Its allways fun to finish a mod. That usually lasts about ten minutes for me before I think of something else to hack and slice... LOL

True. Now I would like to paint the case and install a little LCD screen in there. I don't know how to paint and neither do I know how to install that LCD but I am willing to learn that sometime.

Good job on the cuts. I hate that circles are hard to cut with the dremel but I like how the fan grills hide that fact.

Get that power supply wire out of the way! If it'll reach, move it maybe behind the brace near the PSU, then pull it out more towards the back so it'll be to the left (as seen from your pic) of the HSF.

Great job, though! Hope mine turns out that well, whenever I find time to do it. Bet it's hard cutting a straight line for the window, w/ a cut off wheel? Only thing I've done w/ my dremel/wheel is cut bars in half.

The power supply cable is so short that there is no other way then having it right over the heatsink-fan. BUT, I just received an Enermax 431W PSU like 30 minutes ago. So this will change in a few minutes ...

To get more or less straight lines with the cut-off wheel I went over the lines like three times. The first time I was just barely scratching the surface with the cut-off wheels , second time went more in, ...
