this is my first build. i had a $500 budget so this is what i got. please give feed back.

mobo: ASUS M5A97 AM3+ AMD 970
cpu: AMD FX-4100 Zambezi 3.6GHz (3.8GHz Turbo)
ram: Crucial Ballistix 8GB (2 x 4GB)
gpu: SAPPHIRE 100326DDR3L Radeon HD 6670 1GB 128-bit DDR3
psu: Cm RS500-PCARD3-US 500W RT
case: Thermaltake V3 Black Edition VL80001W2Z

This look fine. which is a low end quad core. In games that dont use 4 cores the fx chip will really struggle, they have very low performance when not using all cores, so games like skyrim and starcraft will run worse than a phenom II.

You might want to consider posting this i General Hardware instead. That's generally where questions like these are posted - you will get some very competent advice there.

if you're doing something that will benefit from more cores, not a bad build... otherwise, I'd stick with intel (especially if doing gaming) for the meantime. As a long time AMD fan, I hate to say it... AMD is getting spanked across the board in the CPU arena right now. They do have some nice GPUs though.
