Crank your memory voltage up to 2.7 volts and try again. If it still gives you problems, also try a different optical drive instead of the Samsung 😛

Also, do you have your worm-prevention game plan in place? If your CD has Service Pack 2 on it already, that helps because it patches the known worm holes and also has the firewall enabled by default. If not, you can keep your network cable unplugged until you've installed Service Pack 2, using the full-file SP2 installer to install it while offline. Got to have it downloaded in advance, obviously 🙂 Free ZoneAlarm would be another option for firewall protection. Or maybe you have a router providing a firewall already 😎

There are some other security suggestions if you click the Secure is Good link in my sig, such as an MBSA scan and enabling Data Execution Prevention all the way.

Ignore Zinn2b he seems to be a twat who enjoys other peoples misery!

Try taking out all components that you don't need such as the second DVD drive......and one of your sticks of RAM.

Also make sure cables are all the right way around...has HD and DVD been rcognised in the bios?

You have two DVD drives.....how are they connected? same IDE cable?? Do you have one set as master and one slave.....I.e if they are both set as master then problems may arise....look for a jumper on the back of the drive near the IDE slot.

Try this I will think of more later.

try swithing the DVD drives so you boot from the other drive (how long have you waited for the setup to continue?)

If the molex connector for that 6800GT is connected but sharing with another device, you need to give it its own dedicated connector. Also need to have the 4pin power connector hooked to the board. If that's all covered trying the other ATAPI drive is a good idea. You can make certain the XP CD isn't scratched or smudged too. Still no joy? Download and run the hard drive diagnostic software from the manufacturer's website. Oh, and you can try another cable to eliminate it as the problem.

For a last resort you can go through the agony of installing XP through the good old floppy method... You need 6 friggin floppies though and be darned if you won't need decent ones as the file copy process has been picky every time I have had to make the boot disks. Such a joy when you get to the 5th floppy and it tells you there was an error in dmio.sys or something. Then you have to go through making the floppies again 😀 crazy!

Lazy me I haven't slipstreamed my xp CD yet to include sp2 but i'll get around to it sooner or later

anyway here's the link to the floppy setup page
