Congratz! eProps to you, now sit down and play games (that's exactly what I did when I got the Yellow Submarine running)

yeah the feeling of turning your machine on for the first time and customizing windows and smelling the warm plastic is the best feeling that you can get...

yep after I got the drivers all working and tweeked I installed BF1942 and took her for a spin ... I am very impressed with the AMDs. This was my 1st one. So far so good.

Nice rig, looks like a good balance of price/performance. Most people don't care for the kt400 or the GF4 Ti4600 but I think that they are 2 stout components.

I don't think I would of gone with all the lights but they do look good, and I like the size of your pics (there not too big).

I never knew why people don't like the KT400 chip set? The GF4 4600 yes I can understand a few things. I looked at all the reviews on the KT400 vs. Nforce2 chip and it does well for the price. I was going to get the Nforce2 but when I was getting the parts it wasn't available in Canada yet 🙁 . I could have gotten it shipped from the US but it would have been a hefty price. So I opted for the Via chip.

The case took me a while to find, I couldn't find one I really liked. Then I came across that one and I loved it. Solid Media makes a great case. The cd drives are all covered with their stealth bays and it makes the case look clean.

yep plus the bench marks are very close to other high priced boards. I don't feel 100-200 point difference is worth 50 bucks.

I am going to 3D Mark it soon after I get my OS tweaked.

You don't have to pair ram with nforce2 unless you want the dual channel.

Just for a reference point, my xp2100(b)+, kt400, 512mb of ddr2100 and GF4Ti4400 got 10500 on 3dmark2001se.

I would say you should be around 12k.

I am running 03 and I checked a few things and it seems fine.

1500 is crap! and my CPU speed (Sandra Mark) is at 1.4 ghz not the 2.0ghz a 2400xp should be running.

any suggestions?

Probably you're not running at the correct front side bus speed. If you were running at 100 and not 166, that would explain the number (and probably your poor benchmarking). A lot of motherboards seem to pick up the multiplier automaticially but start the front side bus at 100 mhz and require the user/installer to bump it up to the correct level in the bios.

I agree with all above, you might have to change the fsb with jumpers on the mobo.

If your running 03 don't expect much, run 01 it is a lot better benchmark for non dirtectx 9.0 (or whatever it is).

ok I looked at my BIOS and the following:

CPU Speed: Manual
CPU Freq. Multiple: 15.0x
CPU Ext Freq. 133/33
Mem Freq. 400

Graphics Aperture Size: 128mb
AGP Capability: 4x Mode

I am some what confused about the AGP in 4x mode I tried to change it but that was max. It was under the impression it was an 8x board (ASUS A7V8X Motherboard) and an 8x card. (GF4 4600Ti)

Anyway I changed the CPU speed to 2000 mhz and I am running a Mark test right now. see what happens.

update: No change in 3D mark test (v.03) got a 1568. Could it be the DirX 9.0b driver I just installed? or the 3D Mark is out to lunch?

The CPU fan sounds like a jet when I crank it to 5000 rpm. But its ok when I go 2500 or so. the other fans are very quiet.

agp @4x and 8x are about the same, there is very very little to no benefit running one over the other. Perhaps the GF4 is not rated @8x, trust me it doesn't matter.

You will still be disappointed with your 03 score, let us know how 01 comes out.
