Why not a retail A64 2800+ and an Asus K8S-MX, though? :) It would be within $10 of the AXP 2600+ and A7V8X-X combination and ought to walk all over it in gaming. edit: yeah, or Sempron :)

Oh, and if you're tempted by the Socket754 thing, check Kensai's thread here. He appears to still have one 754 Sempron left, and he is in Canada so you don't have to deal with Customs duties (I presume) :)

I'll stick with my OC'd 2600+ and my 32-bit processor for now :p Thanks for the opinions though. I'm goin with dual cores when they come out but for now I'll stick with my ex generation setup. I've always wanted to own an AMD Athlon XP processor so this works real well :p.

Ok then I will content myself with throwing stones at the ThermalScum power supply. :) How about a nice Enermax with a beefier 12V rail and maybe 24-pin readiness? Is there an online store you are buying from where we can look at the other options?

Or when the dual high-speed moaning Frankenstein fans on that Not-So-Silent Purepower finally drives you insane.

You obviously don't know what I have right now. I have a 250W no name PSU that has one fan that is as loud as an elephant. I can barely sleep.

This is my current setup

P2 300mhz
128mb pc100
40gb 5400rpm
voodoo banshee 16mb videocard
asus p2L97
250w no name PSU

I've been running on this for 9 years!

I don't shop online. Too risky. I'll do it when I get my own credit card (I've been using my mom's).

It's okay. I'll just overclock it to meet those standards. And don't worry. I'll upgrade when I need to. This is a perfect machine right now. It does everything excellently for gaming and whatnot as of right now. I don't need futureproofing. I'll do that with my next rig when I finally have a decent income :D.

To be perfectly honest with you, if you don't shop online just give up. I use my mom's card all the time and have NEVER had any problems. Check the reseller ratings and only use sites recommended to you by users on here and you'll be fine. Just make sure she knows what you're buying so she can check her statement for any inaccuracies.

Edit: I say give up because you'll never find the best deal in a B&M store unless it's Black Friday.

Actually the store I'm buying my parts from has better prices then the stores online.

You could OC the Athlon64 too  Anyway, I can see that you are resisting the constructive suggestions and really just wanted a pat on the head for your existing plan, so whatever you want, go for it.

Being in Canada, the online statement isn't as true for you, but I wouldn't limit yourself to only B&M. Also, why not check out FS/T for some deals? Anything is better than what you have right now. I bet I could build you a budget non-64 system for a good $50 cheaper than you have AND have 1 gig of RAM.

So in other words you're paying more for less.

You'd do well to listen to Mech and Bud who have high levels of experiance.

Yeah, I don't get why you want to buy outdated tech when you can have something so much better for not much more. Unless this is about fulfilling your fantasy of 'always wanting an Athlon XP'

AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Winnie - $147
DFI Lanparty Ultra-D 939 - $138
MSI NX6600GT - $176
Thermaltake 430W PSU - $49
Corsair 2x512 PC3200 $81

$591. Skip the extra 512mb to keep it in your budget. That would trash your setup. Even with customs, it's something to think about instead of buying what you've spec'd out.

Imagine that elephant fan x2. That's what you are getting with the Thermaltake.

I guess that's 9 more sleepless years for ya LOL..

Seriously though, good luck with your setup.

I could too but I don't want a Sempron. Aren't they worse then Athlon XP?
