My fellow Asian ATOTers: What does "Gap la" and "Shui Yu" mean?

the complete sentences are:

there's not that much "gap la" around the street jumping around.

And these companies are probably looking for "Shui Yu"

the sentences don't really help much. are you sure this is canto or mandarin? it sounds like it could be vietnamese

my cantonese friend said it means "NOOOB"

"Someone very easy to fool, and stupid"

both means the same.


Gap La refers to female duck, but he's not sure. Derived from a saying he said. gah he's saying too much, i don't get it anymore lol.

Gap La is deals. In that sentence, it means there never going to be that good of a deal everywhere.

Shui Yu is fool.

Gap La is actually a kind of frogs which is very rare and treasured for it's nutrient factors. The saying losely translate to Westerner's "There is no such thing as a free lunch." Or more precisely, there's no way you can get such a good deal.

Shui Yu is a kind of fish. Shui is Water and Yu is Fish. Supposedly Shui Yu is a dumb fish and can be easily caught. If someone say you are a Shui Yu it implies you are gullible person; the term is used almost exclusively in the gambling scene.

PartyPoker Player1: I raise you 50k. [holding 2 As, with 2 more As on the table]
PartyPoker Player2: Okay, I will Follow! [holding a Joker and a Red 3 from Uno]
People watching: Hahaha, what a Shui Yu.

Shui yu is not a fish, its a soft shell turtle with a pointy snout, also high in nutrient factors

gap la. you usually use it in a sentence such as "There are not that big of a gap la jumping around the street" which means that deal must be too good to be true.
Shui Yu = water fish = but slang for someone who is easy to fool and use.
