What? Eccos aren't even close to the "top". I wouldn't put them in the top20. Poorly made but comfortable doesn't make a good shoe, let alone a top shoe.

Are you thinking of Ecko? Because Ecco pwns all IMHO.

My top shoes are...

Peal & Co (Brooks Brothers usually made by Alden or English shoe makers), great deals when on sale.

Allen Edmonds

Gordon Rush (I'll take AE over GR but some GR fit better on me)

I took Johnston Murphy off my list 2 years ago, now it's all trash.

I will take Gordon Rush or Kenneth Cole any day over those, not that Florsheim are bad or anything.

I'll give you Gordon Rush, but never Kenneth Cole. KC is a f'ing waste of time, leather, and money. I've had 3 KC products in my life and I'll never buy one again.

In general, any shoe that's usually around $99 is trash. I have a pair of Bostonians, a pair of Florsheims, and a pair of Rockports, all very poorly made (got them many years ago) and look like crap now. My Bostonians actually had an MDF heel. Yeah, MDF instead of leather. Florsheims cracked despite a lot of care. Rockports' sole split.

Opinions vary, I have had Eccos, Kenneth Cole and neither have presented any issues for me. I still have my Reactions by Kenneth that I still wear. Eccos right now I have some I bought for work, they aren't very old but still zero issues. I have Eccos up there using a balance of comfort style and price, they arent cheapo but also not the price of Mephisto, Ferragamo and others.

i still say eccos are ftw.

these are the eccos i have. i dont really have a "top 20" of shoe brands, but for the money (i paid 150) i think theyre decent, i certainly couldnt find anything better. ive had them for more than 2 years and they still look and feel great.

Go try on a pair of AEs, not only will you not look like an Ecco wearing doof, but the shoes will last forever and never look like crap and once broken in will feel awesome.

While I know that $300 is a lot for a pair of dress shoes - Allen Edmonds will last 10 times longer than a pair of crappy Florsheims or Johnston & Murphys. They shine better, they are rebuildable, the leather never cracks, and they are suprisingly comfy for walks.

If you need comfort because you are on your feet but still must wear a dress shoe - Ecco or Mephisto.

I'm not one for Ferragamo, but I do love AE and Aldens. I have 4 Peal & Cos (Algonquin split toes in black and brown I got for $190 each, normally $400 or so, plus a brown and a black cap-toe) that I absolutely love. I have had a pair of AE Park Aves for 6 years, never resoled and they look great. A single pair of Aldens that I wear all of the time (one recrafting).

I used to go through Eccos, KC, Bostonian, Florsheims, like crazy. Never again.

My Eccos are still looking great after ~18 months and have been extremely comfortable the entire time. I've never had to break in a pair of Eccos.. they are good from day one. I'll give AE a try next time I am in Nordstrom.

I have those too but in the slip on. I'm not a fan of tying my shoes :D

Here is a really nice looking AE shoe IMHO, and a decent price. Its pretty similar to my Gordon Rush Beringer I have had for many years now.

18 months? That's a mere blink of an eye for a quality shoe. Let me know how they look in 18 YEARS.

You never had to break them in because they're lumpy to begin with.

I hope that I don't have ANY of the same shoes or any clothing items in 18 years.

If if by lumpy you mean ultra comfortable, yes, they were ultra comfortable to begin with.

Styles change man, I still have some Kenneth Cole's I don't wear because the style of the shoe which was a large size round toe is no longer in. You know how the fashion world is if you know shoes, so I don't know why you wouldn't think some styles just go out.

Your basic black captoe won't go out of style unless you're talking about some garment district fools.

Yes a cap toe is one of the timeless classic looks, but not all shoes are going to be in style as long as those.

I guess I'm trying to impress the wrong crowd :)

Well, no, I'm sure some of us here have pairs of Florsheims, I think the problem was you didn't like any pictures or anything where we could go oooooooo ahhhhhhhh and than debate the "omfg you overpaid, I only need walmart shoes ftmfw".

You had potential with this thread for a 300 reply flamefest..and you failed miserably.

I'm sorry. I was on my mobile browser and the camera icon doesn't show up in it's browser, so all I saw was the "?" in the reply post.

Anyway, I went with conservative business dress:

Got the same thing in black at Famous Footwear by Dockers for $50
