two days ago I had a lucious P4 2.I don't care ghz/ RDRAM screamer running off a 350wat psu. I had bought a P2 (Phenom 2) x3 720 and supplies from Newegg. I had to upgrade EVERYTHING.

Well my problem is I put it together and my monitor show null... I normally like to inch along like suggested, upgrading one thing at a time, but in order to u/g just the VIDEO CARD I'd of coarse have to upgrade a bunch all at once. Well the least I could do is install my AM2+ motherboard (Asus m3nht deluxe/ hdmi), Phnomn 2, Corsair XMS2 2gb (2x1gb) ram, Tuniq 650w and my old Big Typhoon HSF (I wasn't using it before) along with my old DVD and HDD (both IDE until I replace them so they share that one line).

Anyway it took me a while... this case seemed to be like 5mm off with every hole :( (yes it's atx, the board I took out was a typical intel board... no it's not a dell/ gateway (e-machine) etc.) but I got everything installed for just my motherboard (using the integrated gf8200- nforce 780a- and ADI audio) but nada, not even a peep from diagnostics OR a blown mobo. So just to see if the mobo worked I took out the ram and it beeped at meh. I then installed the ram, trying both sticks by themselves. still no pic on the monitor (and it only beeped at me when there was NO ram) and I'm out of ideas.

I actually didn't put thermal paste on (on purpose) when installing the big typhoon... would that cause it not to boot?? There are no cards installed or anything non-essential.

Sounds like either bad RAM or VGA, but since you're using the onboard VGA it's tough to tell. Have any spare RAM to try? Have you tried clearing the CMOS? I would also apply the proper amount of thermal paste asap..

First question what kind of PS are you using?

If it is not your PS then your Mobo could be grounding out what makes me most concerned about that is the fact that your standoff don't match the screw locations on the mobo. I would take the mobo out and put it on a non conductive surface with just the RAM and video card installed. Plug in the power and the power switch and fire it up. If nothing hardware related is bad it should post.

thanks for the replys

first unfortunately I don't have any extra ram to try, but I do have the video card I'll be using... I'd still be unhappy if my vga isn't working, but I planned to use a 9800gt and onboard in hybridpower (not hybrid sli). Anyway I'll pop that videocard in and if still no go I'll pay somebody else to do it... I work in my bedroom lol it's not the greatest of spots but in 10+ years I've never had a problem no matter where I work at since I'm at sea level... but anyway. (Computers are amazingly durable!! Especially when I had my old AT case... boy did I have fun with that one lol)

Oh and I applied a dab of paste to both the hsf and proc. MAN that thing is a b@tch to work with... it's not that it's the wrong form factor or anything, it's just that the frontplate the asus uses is insulated or something... I dunno if your supposed to peal that crap off or not but it make it a TIGHT fit. I have no trouble if I let the screws guide me though... and install it in a certain order... they should note that in the book (doesn't matter nobody reads those lol...)

PSU is a brand spankin new Tuniq 650w. Tuniq is my new fave company er brand name (not sure if they're a company or just a subsidiary).

The paste thing was cuz I wanted to see if paste or no paste with/ without lapping really makes a dif... but than I'm really not an oc'er and the thing is a bitch to work with so I doubt I'd really get to it. Given my work environ I doubt lapping would be a good venture anyway...
