I had to call an ambulance for my father tonight. He has been feeling sick and weak for the past few days and didn't want to bother going to a doctor.
He is very stubborn and refuses to tell anyone when he is sick. Well this time he is paying the price for that stubbornness. He apparently had an abscess on his belly and it got out of hand.
He now has a massive infection, including his blood, and necrotic tissue that needs to be removed. He is now scheduled for 4 surgeries minimum and at least 2 weeks in the hospital.
BTW he is 70 years old and his odds of a complete recovery are not good.
If he survives tonight's surgery his prognosis is good.
Let's all pray that I receive good news tommorrow morning.

PS: thanks guys.
EDIT: I will update this thread about his condition when I receive any news.
UPDATE 1: He made it through the first surgery last night. He goes for another one tonight. He is on a ventilator and the doctor said my father is septic. Hopefully he pulls through. Visiting hours start at noon, so I probably won't have anything to report until around supper time. Thanks once again guys!
UPDATE 2: He made it through the second surgery last night. So far, so good. They are having problems stabilizing his blood pressure, but over all he is doing better. Plastics (hospital slang for plastic surgens) will be coming in this week for a consult on reconstructive surgery. He has been kept unconsious for 2 days now. He came with in a few hours of dieing if I hadn't called for an ambulance when I did. He also came very close to contracting that flesh eating disease. That is what I was told by the doctor. Thanks for all the well wishes.
UPDATE 3: He had his 3rd surgery last night and all went well. He is still on a ventilator, but they will try to get him off it soon. The infection seems under control, but his blood pressure is still not very stable. All looks good for now, but he is still in danger. I will update when I get back.
UPDATE 4: My father had peritonitis. He is doing much better and could be released next week. I can hardly wait to have him home. Thanks for all the get well wishes.
UPDATE 5: Big update! My father has been released from hospital and is now home. I have spent most of tonight making sure he is ok. He is still weak but getting better. Homecare comes in tommorrow to change his dressings and make sure everything is ok. He is glad to be home.
