My father is crazy

Last night my father told me three things:

1) All Jews are liars and thieves.
2) Religious Jews (whom he likes to refer to as c*cksuckers) are the absolute scum of the earth.
and 3) Hitler's attempt to exterminate the Jews was commendable.

In case you don't know (which I'm sure you don't) my father grew up in a Jewish family, was bar mitzvahed at the age of 13, and still attends synagogue/temple a few times a year.

He has always been angry at Jews in general (which doesn't make a whole lot of sense considering that he is Jewish). And his hatred for Israel is extreme. He'll openly tell you that Israel has no right to exist whatsoever. But his outburt last night was little extreme even for him.

My mother always blames it on stress. But there has to be a lot more behind it.

My father hated Jews with a passion right up to his death. I never could figure out why. During the depression it was a Jewish family that employed his mother as a housecleaner. Without that employment he, his sister and my grandmother would have starved.

Go figure.

rather extreme view in general but I kinda can understand why he as a jewish person doesnt think Israel should exist. Thats because Israel is drawing a very very very bad image of jews in the world and it wouldnt surprise me a bit if he as a jew had been harrassed sometimes through out his life by people who let him feel for what they thought about Israel.

If you met him you would never know that he had this side to him. He always (and I mean ALWAYS) goes out of his way to be nice and helpful to everyone.

I never could figure out the whole Jewish hatred thing.

Most times I think it's just plane of jealousy. They as a people tend to stick together, which allows to often times be more successful. While many other groups of people tend to have the "every man for himself" attitude.
I think there is a lot to be said for sticking together and helping one another out. It's just too bad so many other cultures can't or won't do the same!
However why a JEW would hate his own, is beyond me!!??

There is nothin' to "fiqure out". People hate people who don't think, look and have the same beliefs as them, it's human nature and takes work by self to overcome.

I feel sorry for your father, and you, because you have to hear those things.

I was never raised around much religion but I think all people are equal, religion, race, creed, sex, etc. It sounds like you do to by the title of your thread. My father, sorry to say, is a bigot I think. He was a member of an "all white" golf club for years and it bothers me. I played on the course many times and hung out with the guys, but many of them spoke about women, and "blacks" in bad terms, which made me uncomfortable. My dad never went along with the banter, but was not opposed to it either. I think I learned much in those years.

[on soapbox] I am a medic (or was, till my knee injury) and treated everybody with equal respect. The homeless people covered in feces to the rich white guy. If they had a problem, I would talk to them and try and do something to make them feel better.

The world would be a much better place without all these problems.

[/off soapbox]

Does that mean that your dad didn't marry a Jewish woman?

Well, until I speak directly to your dad, read his direct defence, I really can't comment or jump to conclusions. But it seems like he's made you a moderate.

I remember how you told us your dad and mum were going to a co-worker's wedding. The co-worker was Muslim, according to you. I can see what difference speaking to your dad directly would make. :p

No, my mother is Jewish (and they're still married). And yes, his partner at work is Muslim.

Oy veh! (I'm sure THAT wasn't spelled right..)

Weird

Well it's good to see your own attitudes haven't been clouded by his beliefs. At least not in a bad way!

My mother and I are the only people who hear these things. It's been going on for years.

You have my sympathy. I would not like to have my father for whatever reason reject a large part of my identity. Especially for no good reason. The only consolation is that this kind of attitude cannot possibly be blamed on you or your family. Best wishes.
