picked up 36 guinea keets (chickens is close enough if you don't know what they are), plus 2 rabbits and 2 nubian goats. Pics tomorrow.

update: here are the pics of the goats... the keet pics didn't turn out - batteries were dying and needed recharging in the camera (causes blurry pictures)

Nice, sounds tasty :)

The goats certainly wouldn't be! They're both quite young. The female I got was skin and bones... My wife and I will nurse it back to health in no time though. The goats are relaxing with extra portions of food tonight, to give them a break from a stressful day. Tomorrow... tomorrow it's time for shots for them. We don't have any record of vaccinations for them, so they're going to get all of them. (Plus, they're in quarantine from the rest of the goats for at least 2 or 3 weeks.)

Awesome! My parents used to have guineas. I loved the sound they make, strange looking birds tho...

I'm probably going to ask a stupid question, but what is the purpose of the goats? Are they pets, used for milk or something else? I think goats are a lot of fun so long as they don't eat everything or pee on everything :)

I kinda love the sound they make... for those who haven't heard it before, imagine a 3 year old riding an old rusty squeeky tricycle in front of your house, back and forth, all day long.
squeek squeek.... squeek squeek.... squeek squeek
the word doesn't work... very close to a squeeky rusty tricycle.

I've got 6 adult guineas, and 5 or 6 newly hatched (thanks to a chicken) guineas as well as these new editions. 5 died today though (I didn't expect them all to make it.)

First, the goats are pets. We don't have enough to consider it a lucrative business (yet). The myotonic goats (fainting goats) are all registered and will be sold exclusively for pets. The new guys are sort of a distraction - in another year or so we'll try using the milk for goat cheese or soap for our own use. One of my friends used to raise dairy goats for that purpose... he and his wife made some of the best cheese I've ever had.
