check out forums like jdmcivic.com or honda-tech.com...i've read people swapping b16's into their civic's have a hard time getting rid of their complete d16 engines for even $400...

but yeah, if you can't do it yourself (i know i can't) i dunno if it's a good deal...labor's crazy on a job like this.

I would probably prefer to buy another used car, but i think the car might still have sentimental value for the op. It was his first car and he maintained it well, so it probably hurts to see it get salvaged.

Having a new daily driver would be nicer, a landcruiser isnt too great for that as it doesnt sound like you have kids or anything like that.

yeah, i think it would be a lot easier and probably cheaper to just get a different civic if that's the car you really want. i can understand being attached to a car, though.

the usual B13 route, or just a stock replacement?

Don't know what B13 is?? Just to get it back on the road for a daily driver.

He's speaking Greek, or maybe a Pig Latin offshoot of Mazda. 😉

13B = RX-7 rotary engine

92-95 Civic = D15 series engine.

i have d16

..see if you can get a crate engine from Honda. The prob.though may be emission control compatability with the new engine and your existing under hood devices. The new motors may not come wit emission control electronics/devices.

Was this an Si, EX, DX, etc.?

Regardless, you can always try heading down to a local Honda/Acura performance shop -- not just one that sells parts, one that does the actual work. When I autocrossed and did some SCCA racing, we THREW OUT D-series engines and trannys when doing B-series swaps.

Otherwise, I would suggest a junkyard, check some Honda forums, or www.nippon-motors.com/honda.htm <-- I've purchsed 4 engines from them in the past, no problems ever.

No real sentimental attachment to the car - not my first, certainly not my last. Losing it doesn't piss me off more then anything else about the divorce. Just that I know the rest of the car was well maintained, not abused, etc. I know the history, which you don't when buying your average used car.

Anyway, I've been calling around. Quotes to rebuild what's in it are running about $2500-$3000. Two shops - including one that advertises as an "import performance shop" gave me quotes to put in "japanese exchange engine" for about $1800 to $2000 for everything. $700 for the engine, 6 month/6K mile warranty, rest is parts & labor. Found two junkyard engines for about $500 - compression tested, probably about 100K miles.

More info on the car - it's a 4 door DX manual, 1.6L

Anyway, it's not looking like the price range I wanted to get into.
