I have a EVGA 7800GT with the copper heatsink.

According to this tread: http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview...atid=31&threadid=1732016&enterthread=y

People are able to OC theirs on air to about 500mhz/1.2ghz. I used coolbits 2.0 and when I try to "test settings" it to 499mhz/1.2ghz it says it failed and to select a lower frequency.

I havent had any luck OCing it nearly as much as they are. Do you think maybe I got a defective card?

My rig is in my sig.

HAHA, you think OCing makes it defective. It can run as the company gave it to you so it's not. You just got a bad core, set lower settings and live with it.

I dont know if this is related or not. But I seem to get alot of artifacts and tearing on the shadows of objects/people/vechials in BF2. I have everything maxed and AA turned on to the max. The shadows are extreamly ugly - looks like legos they are so blocky.

blocky shadows are common in BF2, and i'm sure that the Delta clock on your 7800gt is set to "0" but it's worth checking out. also exactly which model eVGA 7800gt do you have?

I checked and my delta clock is set to 0. I have the "eVGA 7800GT 256MB w/ copper heat sink (#N516) OCed @ 470MHz/1100MHz Nvidia GeForce"

Coolbits autodetects it at 490/1.14 and i cant play for 5 minutes without getting artifacts in BF2 and the ground starts flickering some.

yeah just keep lowering the clock speeds until you find the spot where the card wont give you any artifacts.

Do you feel like a hard volt mod? I got my 7800gt up to 550/1350 stable with volt mods.
