Just picked up a couple of vantec tornados to replace the crap single chassis fan I was using.

OMFG! I thought I was prepared for the kind of noise they'd generate, but goddamn was I wrong.

Needless to say I'll be ordering a vantec fan controller or a thermaltake hardcano from NCIX tomorrow.

Here's a .mp3 of my system running: OMFG.mp3

The recording was taken using a crap mic sitting on my desk. The mic was not held anywhere near my box (it's on the floor).

Gah!

Edit: Sorry, should've put this in 'Cases & Cooling'..

LOL... you sure you didn't have MS Flight 2002 running while you recorded that? LMAO... better put some books on top of your computer so it doesn't fly away...

my pc is butt slient ;p thanks to asus qfan! CPu is alittle toasty w/ low speed but not even over 50C and the fan is metal not plastic fins.

lol. I know your suprise. After reading a lot of complaints about the noise level of the tornados, I really thought people were just whining. I don't mind if my computer generates some sound. But when I put a 92mm tornado on my HS and fired it up, I was amazed that anyone actually would use that on a daily basis. I have mine now at 7v and it is quiet as a mouse and still puts out a generous air flow.

Agreed. I run the 92mm Tornado as of yesterday, instead of the 82mm Tornado. At the same RPM, the 92mm (with adapter) reads 1 degree C. cooler. The noise is at a lower pitch, and is not as annoying to me. I wonder if I can fit a bigger fan?

I use a pair of Panaflo M1A clones on the exhaust of my Antec SX840 and they do a great job of ventilating my case. Why did you opt for such noisy fans? Do you really need all those CFM?

What's the CFM rating of those babies? I saw one site with some 80mm fans with something like 84GFM. They would do some noise and shirting.

two bits of advice:

1. get a budget watercooling setup

2. get some cotton swabs for your ears in the mean time 😛
