I'm right handed, but shoot left, most of the noise was on my left side.

You screwed yourself. Permanent ear damage, even if the tinnitus goes away.

Some people have gotten REALLY bad cases of Tinnitus, enough for them to commit suicide.

The only thing they can do is give advice on how to cope. There are "tricks" you can learn so you don't pay attention to it as much, but the damage is done and it's forever.

No offense but not wearing ear protection while shooting is really, really stupid.

Whenever I shoot, operate loud power tools (like a circular saw), or go to a concert I always wear ear protection. A few rock shows I left my ear protection at home and I'm paying for it. The tinnitus I have isn't too bad, but I usually have a fan going or something to provide white noise so I don't notice it as much.
