My DVD-rw drive died today--under any warranty?

Purchased this drive last year the day after thanksgiving from OfficeMax. The drive is a rebadged pioneer A05 drive and is labelled as a cendyne 105.

Well, the drive reads discs fine, but will not burn anything anymore.

Cendyne is out of business, but my computer is showing this is a pioneer drive under the properties panel. Pioneer is still in business and has a 1 yr warranty on their drives.

What do you all think. Will pioneer warranty this drive for me or, if not, do I have any recourse with Office Max? Cendyne closed shop and is not doing warranty work any more.

yep, still have my receipt and I bought it at officemax.

I'm going to call Pioneer first tomorrow and explain the situation. If that fails, I'm going to go into office max with receipt in hand and see what they say.

IF that fails, I believe I bought it with AMEX and they will take care of it for me.. I had forgotten about that.

I'm getting a credit from AMEX for $220.00--the cost I paid for the drive last thanksgiving.

What new drive should I get?

Wow that's great to hear.

Do you have to mail the dead DVD-RW to Amex or a repair center?

Which Amex card do you have?

wow, sweet, i really got to get an AMEX.

i have the standard plain jane personal green card.

I am not sure yet what I have to do. Amex said they will take their 2 weeks to review it, but I have met all their criteria for the warranty. I'm fairly confident they will cover me. The drive still works great as a reader. Just the dvd-r part doesnt work and I dont think the cd-r part works anymore either. I have no problem boxing it up and sending it back to them. Its relatively useless to me as it is.

They gave me the option of having them replace it, cutting me a check, or putting a credit on my card. I opted for the credit.

Hey slag,

It's great to hear you're getting a credit for that... I'm just curious if you've been getting my PMs about giving me some HeatWare for the trasaction we did a few months ago. I figure that if you're not for some reason, you should see this post on your thread.

PLEASE give me some HeatWare for the transaction we did: it will take all of 5 minutes, and you'll REALLY be helping me out.

Thank you in advance,

Caleb "Caleb RockeT"
