It's the NEC 3550a which is supposed to read @ 16x... is there a way to set the read speed higher?

I downloaded a dvd decrypter and while it's working, it tells you the speed at which it is reading. It clearly reads 1x. It's slower than my old p4.

i believe you need to flash to a hacked firmware. I think the drive is locked at 1x while ripping. Or something like that.

alright....
the drive has been flashed to the rcp1 firmware, however, the read speed is still 1x. You can't change it in the bios or anywhere,
any suggestions?

EDIT: to flash I used binflash GUI and the physical drive says NEC/optiarc ad7170a FYI
