My duron system: hung like a horse

I have a duron 700 with an abit KT7-RAID mobo. I unlocked the processor yesterday, so I decided to try to o/c it a bit today. The multiplier refuses to run at above 7.5 (Is that just a bad processor or could it be lack of a real video card and other parts). I put the voltage at 1.85...the highest it can go without tweaking the bios. Anyway, I started to up my FSB. Got it to 3...6...9...12...no problems. Then I decided to try 15. First try, runs at 864. But then, wait! It wont register the hard-drive! It just hangs after registering the memory. Ive tried pressing INSERT while booting (supposed to set it to factory settings), but then it doesnt boot at all. What can I do? I waited 5 minutes+ at the hang, and no sign of breaking out of it. I need to get into the bios to get the FSB down. Oh yeah, and I booted it 5 or 6 times in a row, and it hung every time and I had to cut the power supply. Help please? :(

look in the mobo book for somethging called the "clear cmos jumper" that should get you back to factory defaults.

as far as your chip not excepting other multipliers.... try re closing the bridges....

Thanks for the tip on how to get the system back up, but I dont see why reclosing the bridges is going to help anything. I mean, I just did it yesterday, and it runs at a 7.5 multiplier, even though its set at 7. Since it does that doesnt it mean it is unlocked?

Pearman and toph99: Drop your FSB's. If you have properly connected the L1 bridges you will be able to significantly raise your multiplier. That's the best way to overclock. Raising the FSB gets you a marginal speed boost while greatly increasing the system's instability.

My Duron 700 runs stable at 1083MHz (10.5x103).

I have the exact same problem. I've connected the L1 bridges with my trusty pencil(maybe not so trusty) and the highest clock it will work with is 7.5. If I choose 8 and reboot....It shows 7. but 7.5 works. hmmm.

Agree with the advise to Clear CMOS

BTW- as a side note, being "Hung like a horse" is a compliment (at least around here)- means your more, um "manly"
