The video you posted a bit below is definitely not about this house.

So all houses in Spain and France look a like? Both the article and the video mention King Leopoldo as the original buyer. But as said above, I don't speak French. So I could be wrong.

I'll opt for either home as my dream house, if there is a lovely French maid or 5 to help dust.

Am I the only one that would want a 10 sqft max house but an awesome yard?

No thanks. My ideal house would have nothing but rocks (nice big lichen-covered ones), native weeds, grasses and trees. And would be surrounded by National Forest with more of the same. A weed eater and a chainsaw is what I'd use for lawn maintenance.

What's 35 acres on the French Riviera worth? And, hey, that's just the asking price. They might come down to $900M.

A creek of sorts would be pretty fun too, I'd try to see if I can harvest it to generate power. and that's where the whole bureaucracy crap comes in, I'd want an area where I can do stuff like this without someone telling me not to. Of course I would need to account for fish etc. Normally you'd have a small dam with a bypass a bit below the reservoir.

10 is kinda small, but I could probably live in 100 if I had to. I'd want other buildings though, like maybe a 2000sqft garage/warehouse/shop type building. My ideal dream house is not so much the house itself but the location and the freedom offered by said location. If I won the lotto, I'd try to see what it takes to buy a whole lake and like 1km of land all around it. I imagine if you flash enough money in front of the provincial government they'll give you the land. Essentially just declare it as a small city or something. Keep it as mostly trees, but clear out a small section for living. Maybe clear out other sections for rental cottages, family, etc.

This thread got me looking at lake front houses in my general region just for kicks, it's actually not too bad what is available. Go a bit further north and there are some lake front houses with decent size land for like under 200k. Though I think they are within city jurisdiction, my true dream would be to be outside of any city jurisdiction so I can have a bit more freedom in what I can do. Ex: build what I want etc. You probably pay more for such a property and they are much harder to find. (ex: typically not listed on realtor sites) But if I won the multi mil lotto, it's totally what I'd be searching for.

The only problem here is that you are then on a septic and probably a well. These are not so much fun.

Yeah septic is probably not much fun, but guess with a decent setup that is properly accessible it should hopefully be somewhat set and forget, may need to get a tanker truck to come empty it once and a while. For water I'd probably just use lake water, and have a filtration system. Of course, want the septic bed to be as far away from the lake as possible. :p

I'd rather have something like....

24f56a1f8337fdb045cc579c55ee3502.jpg

In the middle of nowhere just with a really good Internet connection and a helipad hidden in the trees and a personal helicopter and pilot on call to bring me pizza or curry on demand or to take me on the razz in the city of my choice as I want.

I lived in a house with a septic system. Our neighbor next door seemed to have a truck down once a month or two to pump out the septic tank. My parents septic tank was never pumped out in 35 years. It always worked. The secret was that my mom put yeast down the drain once a month. Cheap enough solution. I'm not sure though that she understood the science behind it.

I grew up in a home with a septic system, too. I remember it being pumped out once in 20 years. We had zero problems with it and nobody put yeast down the drain.
