on a similar note: my sister has one of those talking elmo dolls. yeah, the ones that laugh when poked, and vibrate when poked three times in a row. well, its thrown up to one of those ceiling corner doll net holders, so nothing is near it, and its facing out the door too. every once in a while, at night it would just go off and start laughing when i walk by her room...

Hahahaha, my sis has one of those, and when I was house sitting for her there was a thunder storm. Woke me and my ex up, was pitch black, and elmo started laughing at us

If that wasn't the case it could've been "harmonics". There may have been a truck nearby transferring energy waves into the ground or an Earthquake generating frequency waves that reverberate the metal coil of the stopper at it's harmonic frequency.

Engineers goofed back then and did not account for the harmonics of the metal properly and the bridge violently shook itself apart when wind speeds hit exactly 55 MPH due to harmonics. It was captured on old movie film too.
