<< Those old 302cid (5.0 litre) V8s are great engines. When you consider that the 302 goes back as far as the 1960's, it's not surprising that the newer verions do so well, after all, by 1986 the engine had about 20 years of development in it. Car looks very nice. Body seems to be in great condition.

EDIT: I'm ahead of you (barely) with 205,850 miles, but it's on an Accord, and the tranny went at 204,905 miles. It was rebuilt so it's not technically on its second tranny, but it might as well be. I only put about 10,000-11,000 miles on my car in a year so you'll probably overtake me shortly. >>
305cid 🙂 The oldmobile version was a 307...you're talking about a Ford 302 aren't you?
Hehe, I'm not in a race....especially after the 87 in a 65 (still hurts 😱)
My tranny's still okay I suppose, just sometimes it downshifts from 4th to 3rd, but it forgets to dis-engage the lockup torque convertor. Not smart 🙁
The body's not bad, well waxed, but the 5 year old 5h!tty paint job is showing; it's bubbling/rusting around the wheel wells, and in a few other places. The back bumper bars/beams are also rusting. I'm probably gonna take them off...but I can't leave them off since there's a hole for where they screw through. DOH! The car would look a lot smoother with those off. 🙁
<< My dad's 96 t-bird 4.6l is at around 275k miles >>
:Q :Q 55k a year!!!!
MADNESS!!! Is you're dad a courier or something?
DAYMM!!
<< Just to add to the indestructible 2.2ls. He also had an 81ish dodge rampage 2.2l 5 speed that must have had atleast 300k on it when he sold it. The odometer quit working for the the last 3 or 4 years we had it. >>
😀
<< I sold a 1986 Subaru with 225,000 on it 2 years ago for $500...still worked great >>
I think I could get that much for the boat...probably even a tad more.
<< Friend has an Accord with 300+k on it. Had a '91 Civic with 270k on it... Then had a Subaru, had 230k on it. Then we had a 2000 Civic SE which only had 20-30k on it, we sold it. My dad's been driving a gmc van and it's the biggest POS he's ever driven (he used to have a mustang 'back in the day', and he's driven a dodge colt, a jeep, and the above cars). Always has problems, costs tons to maintain.. Wants to get rid of it. My mom has a 96 Civic coupe now which is pretty sweet. 2-door 5spd manual, nice red paint which is now filthy thanks to the weather/condition here. Runs like new though, so it's pretty nice. My favorite is still the '91 Si we had, though.
Glad to hear you made 200+k miles on that old domestic! Congrats. >>
Hehe, that's a LOT of miles too!
I would NEVER want to fix a van, so hard to get at the engine 🙁
Thanks 🙂
