sounds like what you mean then, is that pets are treated as property under our legal system. from an economic perspective, your emotional attachment does increase her value... it's just that our legal system doesn't take that into account.

Of course that's what I meant. What else could it mean considering the context?

it's only "of course" if someone reads your post giving you the benefit of doubt. absent that condition, it could have been read to indicate that you think pets are not more special than an inanimate object, as previous posters have interpreted it to mean.

I just read the update....I am glad the other guy is willing to try to make ammends without a legal battle.

I would not look for the most expensive corgi and demand that price. i dont know if the court would give you the cost to replace the dog AND vet bills, so i would not push it. i would look around at dogs get an average price and ask for that plus vet bills.

while this is a horrible experience, and my heart goes out to you.... your dog was a gift, and if replacing him means that you have to take a little out of your pocket, i do not think it would be unreasonable for you to do so, as your dog did not cost you anything. please dont take that out of context. i am NOT trying to devalue your dog, nor your heartbreak... i am just trying to be realistic with a hope to avoid the other guy telling you to go scratch your ass if you ask for too much.

get an average for a new dog, add it to the vet bills for your lost dog, and ask the other guy for that.

I talked to him on the phone and he told me to go find estimates on how much it would cost to replace the pet and send him an email of the costs with the vet costs. I feel better that he is willing to do something to replace, but it still sucks that we have to go through this in the first palce. Now First of all, my dog is a gift so I dont have a specific replacement cost on this, and we probably dont have proof of how much was paid for. second of all, the corgi pets range in price, so I'm worried that if I quote him a price, he will disagree and want to just pay the lowest cost. We have the right to set the price and he should not be able to dispute it right?

if a dog can really cost that much, then we have a right to get that much right?

I'm very sorry to hear about your loss. My fiancee and I are the owners of a 5-month-old Pembroke Welsh Corgi, too, so I can't even imagine the grief you and your wife must be going through.

I can't help you with your grief, but I can help you in regards to pricing for PWCs. If your dog was purebred and registered, males should cost at least $650, and females at least $750. If the dog had a good pedigree, its value can go up into the thousands and higher. I would try to get in touch with the breeder of your dog (if you know who it is), or you can probably get in touch with the Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club of America. They probably will have experience with this sort of thing, and should hopefully be able to guide you during this time.

I wish you the best of luck during this difficult time.

Today me and my wife were walking the dog around campus on a leash. Another guy on the other side of the street was also walking his dog on the leash and all of a sudden, the guy's leash broke came and bit my dog in the neck. After his dog let go, he just walked away, and I had to go and stop him.

He repeatedly said that my dog is ok, and to not worry and would not apologize until we asked him to. Even though he did, it was not sincere. My wife was crying and ask why he did not say sorry when it happened, and the guy raise his voice. We immediatly took my dog to an emergency clinic, but it was already too late.

I then reported this to the campus police. The police clld the guy to ask what happnened. Thankfully, the guy admitted fault and said he will take responsibility. the cop called me back and said that I can call him and we can negotiate.

I really dont know what to do. My dog is a 13 week old welsh corgi, and we had it for about 2 months. I dont know what to 'negotiate.' I hate the guy, to tell you the truth. He killed my dog. My dog literally died in our arms while we were driving to the hospital.

I"m not in the mood to call him now, but when I call him, what do I say? We lost a live being, a best friend, there is really no dollar value that can replace this. I just dont know what to do from here.

anybody ever have this experience. what do I do?

Anyone who craps this thread will be out of here for a nice long vacation!

It would probably be good if you got maybe 3-4 quotes from different pet shops around your town/city and do an average price. Also make sure to get some sort of written proof if possible just in case the person won't believe you.

You really can't put an exact price on how much the dog costs since stores always vary in price so averaging w/ local shops near you would be good.

Sorry bout your dog, bad situation...best of luck to you.

I know how you feel man. My German Shepherd passed away on Wednesday 🙁

Atleast he was old, I think the guy ought to pay for whatever it is that you end up deciding that you want.

Give him the highest estimate you can find for the dog. What's he gonna do, disagree and tell you it doesn't cost that much?

I also own a Pembroke Welsh Corgi. He's 2.5 months old and is a great little guy. It sounds like you weren't that attached and won't mind having your pet replaced and be done with it. That being said finish off quickly... $500 or so should do you, and don't look back.

Personally I'd wonder if there wasn't some legal recourse you could take to have his dog detoothed, it's a menace and who knows how many other puppies it might kill.

I really hope this works out for the original poster. I have lost two doggy members of the family(one part Corgi) in the past year and may have gotten a little worked up earlier in this thread and for this I apologize. My heart aches for you as I know the pain.

I get especially emotional because I know how much love they bring to our lives. I truly recommend getting another dog soon when you are ready. We lost our two old friends and then adopted a mutt from the humane society and I will be darned if this girl dog isn't the coolest dog ever and has worked her way into our hearts when we all thought we could never love again. 🙂

i had a black lab of mine kidnapped =\ was a sad sad day - hope things work out for the best, and by that i mean you rip that guy apart.

I would say he should pay top dollar.

Call it a ass hole tax!

Plus that doesn't even count pain and suffering.

True it was a young dog but you still had time into training him etc...

And NO amount of money can cover the love you lost. 🙁

Contact your local animal control, If his dog has attacked another dog before then he may now have to register his dog as a vicious dog ( meaning he must have it pened all the time, carry $50K insurance etc)

it seems that he is scared taht he can get in trouble, so he's doing what it takes to save his ass.

make him pay for his 'assholeness'

Anyone else notice that OP only had the dog for 2 months?

Yeah, seemed sort of weird. The drama, that is.

Now hes worrying about getting top value for the dog.. which was a gift. Shouldn't he be more worried about what happens to the other dog?

Yeah, he stated it in the original post that it was a 13 week old puppy that was killed by the other dog. What part of that did you miss?
