My dog is a little crazy

One of my Golden Retrievers has always been a little crazy. She's always very scared when people cough, or just clear their throat. It's been going on for 2+ years. Someone just coughed a minute ago and she ran and jumped up on my bed and wouldn't come off. Anyone ever heard of that before? Can't seem to stop her from being scared of coughing, tried giving her a treat everytime i cough for a while but it still doesn't work. It does come in handy sometimes though, since she doesn't respond to her name hardly ever, and won't move once she's found a place she likes, i can just clear my throat a bit and away she goes 😛

edit: like if you whip your folded shirt in the morning...
You've obviously conditioned your dog to be scared whenever anything is whipped out. :Q

lmao

The giant tongs I use to BBQ scare the crap out of my dog when I clamp them as if they are a giant mouth. He growls, barks and snarls. If I rush him with them, he will run away. It's funny.

I actually changed my wording from "like if you whip out a folded shirt in the morning..." to what it was, just for that reason 😱

I have a cat that makes a weird noise at ppl when they sneeze. It is not like any other sound she makes, so it is almost like she is saying "bless you" ... but she is a weird cat anyway.

🙂

I'll bet the dog is hearing impaired, and probably doesnt hear EXCEPT the cough?

This sounds reasonable... since she also doesn't respond to her name like OP posted.

I don't think her hearing is too good, she can also hear whistles well, people whistling i mean.

Some animals are just odd.

My german shepherd is scared to death of flashlights.
If my kids go in the back yard with flashlights at night he runs to his dog house and won't come out.

My macaw actually says "bless you" whenever someone sneezes. Sometimes she'll even sneeze loudly (a fake sneeze, mocking mine) and then say "bless you" to herself.

As for my dog... there isn't much he is NOT afraid of. He'll bark at people from behind his underground fence, but if they take one step into the yard, he takes off and hides behind the house.

Haha. My dog is the same way... all bark no bite. I love him for it, though.
