I am very sorry for your loss. I have only heard these stories, never seen such a tragic thing happen. My dog does not wear a collar unless on a leash, and now probably never will. I will get a microchip for his identification instead.

mine once went through a hole in the fence and got lost in the neighbors yard ...couldn't find his way back. it wailed heh. he doesnt do that anymore.

sorry for your loss. dogs getting caught on their collars and fences happens more often than you think. my dog doesn't wear a collar. he has his tags on his harness which only goes on when he is outside.
