Last night around 10:00 PM I was watching TV and my dog outside was barking like crazy. I got annoyed and went out to see what she was barking at. Well I get outside and find her barking at a possum that was just sitting in the middle of the driveway. I was like a little freaked because I didn't know if they had fought or anything. I yell at my dog to go in the house and she does, and I check her out to make sure she is all right. She is a 50 pound German Shepard/huskie/collie mutt(I really don't know what she is) BTW. She was perfectly fine without a scratch on her, but she was really excited. So I go outside and the possum is still sitting there, so I get a mop and started started walking toward it and it clumbed up my fence. I thought it was going to keep going but it stopped on the fence. I noticed that it crapped and pee'd on my driveway, so I guess my dog scared the shiznit out of it. Well I go and start poking it with the mop hopeing it would go away, but it just started growling at me. I got pissed at it for being stubborn, so I got out my pepper spray and sprayed a little on it. I wanted to make it think I was a skunk or something, not really hurt it but just annoy it with the smell so it would go away. Well it just say there looking pissed off. I then grabbed my hose and started spraying the little bastard with water, and after a few minutes of spraying it from about 20 feet away, it finally climbed down and ran off. I don't think my dog attacked the possum, but I'm not sure. It wasn't bleeding or anything, but it looked all mangy. It was probably about 2 feet long from nose to the tip of it's tail, so it wasn't super-huge. It looked like a regular sized possum. Hopefully it won't come in the yard again. I was really proud that my dog decided not to go all out and attack it.

my dad and I used to catch those trapping a lot, since they weren't foxes or racoons that we were looking for, we always let em go. I grew to like possums, their reputation for playing dead was for real, we'd be standing over it, and it would just lay there trying to fake us out. I'd let it out of the trap and we'd walk off aways and sure enough, after about 3 minutes it would run off.

hehe, good story. :)

when i lived in san antonio, we had a large backyard. one day i heard him yelping, so we went to the back door and saw her fighting with a skunk. going all out, balls out. The skunk sprayed her after she advanced, and the ran away real fast. Ran right into my mothers arms, then jumped out and ran all over the house.

it smelled like ass for like 2 weeks.

We had a possum that lived under our deck in the back yard. Possums are pretty mean and hard to get rid of. The Animal Control folks didn't want anything to do with it, told us we'd need to hire a trapper. Ended up just living with it.

My dog is super-friendly to people, and loves them. She seems to not like other dogs very much though. When I take her for walks, sometimes she sees other dogs. If they are far away she will get down on her belly and try stalking them. Then when they get close enough she will jump up and start growling and barking like crazy.

My dogs are hunters. Dont know why they are so furicous with 4 leged thing thats not thier own kind. If that possim was at my house probbly already dead by the time I go out in the yard.

Kind of scarry to see a mutlated animal. Knowing that my dog has killed it.

Your dog is very good.

My hillbilly neighbor used to have an ugly little rat terrier that would attack and kill possums. We have sh|t loads of possums here, and that dog would be up all night long fighting those damn things.

I used to chase the dog trying to kick the snot out of it every chance I got.
Its gone now, wish the neighbor was too.

I noticed in the snow pic that the dog has webbed feet. She is probably a very good swimmer. You ought to take her to the lake and see what she does. BTW, she is a beautiful animal. I can tell she is in a good home. She has a good looking coat, happy face, and intelligent eyes.

My damn dog is an idiot, he has been sprayed AT LEAST 4 times and he keeps going after skunks. Good thing he is an outside dog.

Possoms are fearless.I have one near my house that actually comes in through my doggy door and eats out of my cats dish. This happens right in my kitchen, not kidding here. I have gotten up in the middle of the night to find the possom standing there eating my cats food, not even paying any attention to me, even though he sees me clearly. To me they just do not seem to be bothered by humans. He just stands there like, "yea, what do you want?"

This has happened a few times and each time it amazes me like it was the first time because I chase him out everytime and yet he comes back. I don't even bother making him leave anymore, I figure if my cat can deal with him eating out of his dish then so can I. The possom is a baby and I think it may not have a mother so thats why I kind of feel bad for it. If your wondering why I have possoms near my house its because I live next to a swamp.
