My Documents: How to get rid of at startup?

One installation of XP always starts up two windows with the "My Documents" folder every time XP boots. How do I get rid of it?

It's not in the Startup program folder. It is not in the Run or RunOnce section of the registry. It is not in the registry at all in a way that looks like it would auto run at start up.

I don't recall how I got it. It must have been some kind of "tweaker" that I tried out. It used to be that a single version would auto-open at startup. Now it is two, one directly on top of the other. If I don't close the pair, next time I start I get 4 versions, etc. It is not a convenience; it is a pain, and now I can't get rid of the SOB.

This may or may not be your problem, you can look and see:

When you log on, multiple windows may open. When this occurs, one window opens for each file or folder in the root folder on the hard disk. This occurs if there is no data value in the following key. This value points to the folder from which the Startup group items for the All Users profile are run. If not present, NT assumes that all files and folders in the root folder must be opened.

Hive: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Key: SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\
Name: User Shell Folders
Type: REG_EXAND_SZ
Value: %SystemRoot%\Profiles\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

I hear they have some great people on that planet, earthman.

That registry key seems to be OK on my computer. It's not empty and the data there looks sensible.

Thanks for the reply.
