My Documents folders?

Superself

I need help understanding how many my documents folders there are in Windows XP and explain the use of them. Which my documents folder is used and when.
So far I have noticed a "Documents" folder under all users, "My Documents" folder under the user profile and another "My Documents" in what seems to be a duplicate profile named (username.computername-??????).
Also, which should I backup? ALL?

Thanks.

What a coincidence. I'm having the same problem with WindowsME, and I thought: "What a mess, surely they've fixed that in XP". Guess not.

Sorry, I don't have an answer, just thought I'd jump in for a little gratuitous MS bashing.

There is one per user and the 'All Users' folder. You mention seeing UserName and UserName.MachineName, this generally occurs when you've joined a domain with the same name as a local user. The .MachineName is added to make the names not collide (the user profile for bsobel locally isn't the same as my bsobel domain user, both get different My Documents folders)
