I just had my yearly physical and they doctor says I am way over weight and pulls out this chart with three body types on it. Small, medium, and large frammed men and what they should weight by hight. And for me, a large frammed 6'3" male, it said 169-188 lbs and I'm 248lbs!!! So I'm 60 lbs. over weight? The last time I was less than 200 was in 10th grade. I think it's not possible to get to 188 what do you guys think? Are these charts bull? Or am I really the fata$$ he said I am? Is it even possible to be that skinny and be healthy?

What pyonir said. If your body fat is under 15%, tell your doc to kiss off. Charts and BMI are pretty much crap...it's all about how much fat vs lean mass you're carrying.

Edit: normal body fat for males under 30 years is 14-20%.

large frame eh, i'd say that if you are not buff then yer probably like 20lbs overweight. do you have a gut? do you get tired from running up a flight of stairs?

yer probably not that bad if yer tall and big framed as you say, i hope that you really are big boned and not just a fat guy making excuses

"Standard" height/weight charts are just that...standard. They're an idealized version of events and don't allow for enough variability. Take thoe estimates with a large salt lick.

I'm 188 and 6'1.

I could also stand to lose 10lbs, so the doctor may be correct.

i wouldn't say you're fat or obese but you're pretty big. i wouldn't say aim for 188 but maybe 200, 210 if you lift weights.

Ditto. If your fit you will be pretty buff at that hight and weight. Or else you will be overweight. Don't know if your making excuses but if you work out or 'regularly' do exercises then chances are that your not overweight or overweight by just a bit. If you do regular exercise you are fine at that weight.

Seen guys that are about your height and weight but these guys train down the gym and are 'big' as in big muscled.

Body fat is the key. I weighed 210 lbs in high school at 6'1", but a lot of it was muscle since I weight trained and was active back then. Twelve years later I weigh 290 lbs and think it is realistic for me to get back down to 210 lbs.

Ok so 210 is probably a more realistic goal not 188. Thanks :)

I feel your pain. I'm 6'2" and 246 pounds. My doctor says I should weigh 180 pounds, which means i'm about 70 pounds overweight. :|

I'm 6'0" and 180 lbs..but its all in my stomach. Got a nice gut going, considering I'm only 18. I guess I should try to get back in shape.

I asked the Doc about this and he told me that's why Arnold has heart problems. He also said weight lifting and gaining lots of muscle is bad for your circular system? WTF nothing good anymore. He said 188 is the absolute max you should weight in with muscle.

Just go to a gym. Who cares how much you weight. That's completely irrelevant. What's important is how you feel, and the actual physical condition of your body and its parts. There's absolutely no reason to concern yourself with a worthless numbered measurement such as your weight. Unless of course, it restricts you in some way or in some daily activity of some sort.

Good luck. BTW, if you're satisfied the way you are now, just stay the hell like that, no reason to change unless you see yourself putting on more and more weight and are unsatisfied with it. What if you were 6'3 and 300lbs? You could be very muscular, and not be "over weight" at all, yet still be 100lbs heavier than the average guy your height. If you have some excess fat (it looks like you might, but it's impossible to judge by pictures), just run for 10-30mins (starting with less and building up each day) and it'll all dissapear. Fat doesn't way that much, anyway.

OH, one more note: diet is very important. Pay close attention to that if you want to ever have a chance at losing any of that weight.

i agree you should get your body % fat measured. as far as i know, normal is 10%-20%.... and anything over 25% is obese.\

btw i saw my thread that you guys made into a nef fest....it was crazy. incredible how many posts spanky and fatalbert got out of it :Q!!

Bah, BS. Im 6'0, 240 right now. Yea, overweight, but when I was 205, I looked pretty good. I've really got "big bones", so for me, about 200lb was ideal. I would have been kinda sickly at 188.

oh and i forgot to add to tell you that i actually measured my weight and fat % at one point. the next time i measured, my fat % decreased yet i gained weight. (i was the same height, 5'7). so yea, i dont know why, more muscles? more bone probably. older people weigh more as well dont they?

When I had my physical last year the doctor told me I was overweight too.

I'm about 6'1" and weighed in at 197. Never mind the fact that my blood pressue was in the good to excellent range, my heart rate was at 57, and my cholesterol was at 132.

Just for reference...here's a pic of MY FAT ASS. I'm in the front with the blue and white checkered shirt.

I'm 6'1" or so, and currently weigh about 190lbs. I get called skinny all the time, but having recently employed a personal trainer, he thinks I could lose at least 10 or so. I have a medium frame, so I don't see how it's even close to possible for you to be at a healthy 188lbs.

I also had my bodyfat ratio tested, and it was a bit over 20%. I didn't think it was that bad, but I'm trying to get under 15.

Good luck!
