Box 1 of the fusions is finished - just need to attach the outer baffle

Tempests arrived today, Boxed up masterfully - Erich these ones didn't show the indents on the Styrofoam like the dbl packed fusions did

Dry fit next to Fusion #2 -

Holy crap they are large - AKA i suck at judging size in 3 dimensions - not a big deal they just look so much larger in person - rillas 15s must be massive

Made some more room - much more assembly line looking now

Tempest #1

Should get the inner baffle on Fusion #2 tonight and prob the other side in the morning - might get the braces in Tempest #2 but it depends on clamps

Every time i type clamps this is all i can think of

That all looks rather interesting, and dare I say... kind of fun? :p How hard is it to build assemble the electronics after you finish the box? That would probably be the hardest part for me since I'm an electronics noob.

the crossover is what stops most people. if you can read a circuit diagram and solder its pretty simple. you can also pay people to do it for you pretty cheaply. Another AVS member got 3 done for 200$ but he upgraded the caps which was a significant part of the cost.

after that its as simple as attaching the wires to the speakers and screwing them in

its not if you have the tools. but thats where the flatpacks come in

i would have done it myself if i owned a capable table saw and a router

for a complete novice, soldering wires and screwing on speakers is a lot easier than building enclosures.

not to that step yet. i plan on getting everything built and then finishing. ill prob start it this weekend

also with duratex joints showing isn't a huge issue as it covers everything. but yes i plan on doing it

hey anubis, anything special you do to the wood to get the sand dust off of it, other than wipe a tacky cloth or damp sponge to get the loose stuff off of it? like to prepare it to be coated with duratex?

I'm curious about one thing... how much do you save building these yourself? I don't mean how much would it cost to have someone do it for you, but rather... if you were to purchase a speaker from some manufacturer (insert any fancy brand that you know here), how much would a speaker with similar sound qualities cost?

its hard to do a direct compair like that because everyone likes something different, but these should run with most things in the 1.5-2.5k range. another AVS member built some and likes them over his JTR T8s (~1200 each), rilla says his kill the CHTs which are like 450 each.

The bang for $ goes a long way. even further if you can build you own enclosures. MDF and BB are not all that expensive

Subs are prob an easier compairison. the Dayton i got is 250. add in 100$ for wood to make a box/paint and 300 for an amp (ep4k) and you are at $650. you know have a sub that has more output then comercial subs costing 1.5-2k

anubis is 1 of those daytons about the same as 1 of the caps as far as output?

My woofer alone cost more than your dayton 18 build :( Atleast it shakes the house.

Yes and the FTW 21 has a ton more output potential. its all about trade offs.

1 has less output, 2 beats 1, 4 beats 2 which is why andrew replced his

2 daytons +amp is about equal in price to 1 passive cap + amp

gotcha. i also think the sealed sounded a bit cleaner, although it was kind of hard to tell in his house because of things rattling around behind his calls anyways haha.

I almost asked what your handle was on AVS...then my pea-sized brain saw that "sibuna" backwards was...yeah.

:p

(Looking good!)
