My dispute with an e-tailer, am I being unreasonable?

Hi guys,

I've sent in an email to Ice.com because I bought a diamond ring for my 'friend' for Valentines day.

To make this clear, I did not make the cutoff for valentines day, which is 9:00AM yesterday morning, this I realize. I ordered at 6:30PM. I hoped that the item would make it out today, and arrive overnight tomorrow.

After all, if someone can order an item before 9:00AM on Feb 13th and have it out by that afternoon, one would think that if one ordered it on Feb 13th in the afternoon, that it could be out on February 14th sometime during the day and arrive on the 15th.

I've now found out that this 'overnight' shipping item, will not leave the warehouse for up to 4 days, and feel that this is extremely decieving, and pretty awful, that they can get everything out almost instantly one day, but have a 4 day delay for anything shipped even an hour after a deadline.

What do you guys think?

I'd just cancel my order, or if you really want it try calling them and explain your thoughts. If that doesn't work, wait 4 days. I don't think your being unreasonable, but at the same time I don't think what they are doing is all that bad either. Thats just life man.

I think that you missed the cutoff so its your fault. They may have had extra staffing to work through the holiday and now they dont.

I'd cancel it to and go to a real jewelry store.

No reason to wait 4 days if the item is in stock and able to be shipped. No other companies do that.

If I lived in the same city as my 'friend' I would be getting some, with or without the ring.

She lives in Boston, I don't and I'm improvising given the circumstances.

Extra staffing does not mean a 4 day delay, especially when it says 'overnight', one would assume that it means it will go out the next business day.

Depending on the Pick up... I've shipped stuff from work at like 5:30pm for next day delivery and it always got there in time.

Which is why I think this is crap.

I have seen this type of thing before, Even Amazon has done it to me. I would never order something overnight if I HAD to have it the next day.

All orders ship out from ICE.com within 1-2 business days pending order/credit approval.
Orders for rings may be delayed due to ring sizing.

FedEx Standard Overnight ® Free on all orders 1-3 Business Days

recieve it 4 business days from now sounds about right.

No, it's not recieve it. It says 'be sent from warehouse within 4 days' not recieved in 4 days on my order history page.

I don't see how you have a right to be upset. you missed the cutoff.

4 days to ship is not unreasonable. if you wanted it faster you should have went into a store

Again, 4 days to ship is unreasonable if its own website says 1-2 days to ship.

Thanks chump!

the 1-2 days is not set in stone. if they say 4 days to fricken bad i don't find it unreasonable at all.

I can't go to a store, like I said, I'm an international shipment that will ding her for brokerage fees amongst other things, even if it is simply 'a gift'.

Anyhow, appearantly it was a mass generated message and it was shipped today.

Read the policies of a store before you order. 1) you knew you missed the cutoff. Doesn't matter if you think they should still be able to get it out that day. 2) all stores have a 'processing time', you should look for stores that advertize same day shipping on in stock items. Overnight shipping means it goes overnight when it's shipped.

It's really your own fault for not planning ahead. If you absolutely needed a ring (or anything) where a mistake in the order would push you past the timeline; buy it locally and pay for that convenience.

Clearly reading comprehension > you.

I didn't expect it to get out the same day, I thought it might make it out the NEXT day.

That would be TWO working days.

I don't think I'd give much business to a place that took four days to ship an overnight order. But really, if it was that important, you should have found out ahead of time.

Buying a diamond ring for a "friend" does not compute.

oh dear god, let your ex go. I _really_ hope you aren't sending this ring to that 'friend' to get a reaction out of your ex.
