My dilema...upgrade my PC or get a Compaq iPaq H3630

NFS4

OK, I love my computer now, and I love my PDA (but I crave more speed). Here are the current specs on both:

PC
Athlon 600 @ 735MHz
Abit KA7
256MB PC100 memory
27GB Hard drive
Gigabyte SDR GeForce 256

PDA
Compaq Aero 2110 w/PocketPC ROM upgrade
24MB RAM
16MB ROM
70MHz NEC MIPS processor
slow ass serial connection
CompactFlash slot

This is what I want to upgrade to

PC (in January)
Dual Duron 600's (maybe 700's) at 950MHz+
256MB DDR SDRAM
AMD760MP motherboard

or

PDA (which I could probably buy next month)
Compaq iPaq
32MB RAM
16MB FLASH ROM
206MHz Intel StrongArm processor
USB interface
connector for expansion packs (Compact Flash and PC Card)

I guess I've out grown the phase of having to have the absolute fastest PC out there. I was planning on getting the new system JUST TO HAVE THE LATEST AND GREATEST, but for what? I hardly play games anymore, and I basically use my computer now for just web browsing and doing school work. And my computer is plenty fast now for my needs. I could probably hold off til next spring or even summer before upgrading.

I on the other hand use my PDA a lot, and the 70MHz processor is getting to be a bit slow. I love the iPaq and the way it looks as well as its awesome speed. And I can't live without a PDA.

So I can either spend my money in January and have a high-tech system that I can't take advantage of really, or get a new PDA to replace my current one. And besides, I can sell my Aero for about $200 and my roommate just peaked over my shoulder and said that he wants to buy it from me.

What would you do in my situation?

I'd go for the PDA. My computer isn't exactly super fast, and I've got money to do stuff but I don't have this huge burning urge to upgrade. I'm happy with what works, so I'm sticking with it. My box here is almost 3 years old now. However, I just recently bought a Handspring Visor Deluxe, to use for school and such, and it's really helped me out. Your computer is already way more advanced than mine, so I'd just stick with it. With mine, I rarely play games, except for High Heat Baseball 2001, and the occasional UT online game. But usually its all school work and internet browsing. So I'd go for the PDA.

With me its gotten to the point where 1pc just cant hack it anymore

I need one as my gaming/normal use pc (soon to be celeron 850ish with geforceMX)
One as my learner/server PC (I'm hoping for a cheap dualy)
and one as a colocated server to host web sites, and actually TRUST the connection.

fortunatley i already have the first one 90% done, the second should be under $600, and the third should be damn near free (splitting with a friend, and re-selling webhosting)

In all of this I plan on getting a Handspring Visor Deluxe.

I gave up on my laptop plans.

I'm gonna go with the iPaq I believe. Upgrading the PC is gonna cost about $600.

Getting the iPaq is gonna be $500 retail (a bit less if my good pal can help me out *wink* *wink* 😀).

Guy Under the Bridge?

Of course you "know" him, or maybe I am thinking of Guy Until the Bridge...bahahaha 🙂

Well, checked Buy.com's website (where I always order my computer stuff), and they have the iPaq for $499 + $6.62 ground shipping or $12.09 second day air.

I called their customer support line and I would get it either the last week in October or the first week in November. I can't wait. Gonna place my order tomorrow, hopefully 😀

<< Why, I'm perfectly happy with my SDR GeForce >>

...true, but how will it hold up under HO mortar spam in Tribes 2?

APC ready to go, waiting for passengers!

Come on NFS4, you know what the right choice is, the new computer. Think of what 1900mhz of pure dual Duron(what the heck are we supposed to call dual Durons anyways, Celerons took "Dualeron"?) would do, especially in RC5.😛 Seriously though, I think the iPAQ is the right choice for you, it seems to be something that you'll make better use of.🙂

PS There's allways option 4, giving the cash to ViRGE 😉
