I used the fan with an SK6 heatsink on three different motherboards: a KT7 mobo, an 8KTA3+ mobo and an 8K7A+. Each time it was plugged into the respective motherboard and it lived up to it's reputation as being way too loud on all three. Today I bought the adaptor and I'm running it off 300Watt power supply. (I'm using a KA266 motherboard.)
Surprise! The fan is much quieter. In fact, right now I'm using the system with the case open and the fan is barely audible.
