I think that from time to time as well, and then I remember that war we started in the middle east in 2002 (my sophomore year)

I don't doubt the PT test is harder in the army. I just know that even for someone like me who went in with confidence that it completely broke me down mentally and I somehow managed to pull myself together. 30 of 90 guys in my division didn't make it the full 8 weeks. And it's not like the Navy just pulls in anyone off the streets. I needed every bit of my 93 ASVAB to get the job that i did.

What year was this 1980? And you know your asvab score is meaningless for job placement right?

2011. Not my job as an electronics tech. Sure the composite is taken from two parts of your ASVAB and two other from your mech knowledge and another part, but in the enlistment pipeline there is also an 86 ASVAB requirement on top of the composite to have my rate(MOS). The Navy is picking the best of the best these days. Recruiters didn't want anything to do with me until they saw my ASVAB. There wasn't even talk of me going to meps or jobs available until I took a practice asvab.

What.....what just happened? An intelligent post from Scholzpdx. The world must have ended and I didn't raptured. I knew I should have kept my peepee in my pants in my 20s. SHIT!
 
My son will be going to Air Force basic training in a few months. Can't wait. He has his pick of "jobs" due to his ASVAB test results. But, we'll see what he ends up with.

'90 for me. We were chugging water constantly, and I still ended up needing IV fluids once. The PT stuff wouldn't have been nearly as hard without the ungodly heat and humidity. I was pretty thin when I went in, and I still dropped 20-25 pounds in two months.

Also had several guys pass out at parade rest out on the grinder. Their face would literally bounce on the cement. The best part is after they got back from the doc they'd get chewed out for locking their knees. 😀

Not true. it is meaningful in terms of what jobs you are eligible for. After that, yes, there is less relevance. You don't get to pick your job, but you do get to give them a group of areas you are interested in. Then it depends on what they have open.
 
When I was in the Army and stationed in Germany during the Cold War, we trained differently that the Air Force.

I was a Fire Support Specialist (Forward Observer) we called Artillery, Naval Gun Fire and Close Air Support (from Air Force).
Out in the field we work in tracked vehicles, sleep in leaky tents and eat one "hot" meal a day that was trucked out to us.
We worked 12 hour on and 12 hours off.
Some times the Air Force would send out an Air Liaison Officer to work with us. They'd show up in a rental car that they drove from the Gästehaus (motel) they were staying in. They work 6 hours and then drive back. Eat in a restaurant and sleep in a bed.

That's not unusual the school that U.S. Army members went to prepare for NCO ranks used to be called P.rimary L.eadership D.evelopment C.ourse, but in the last decade it was changed to W.arrior L.eadership C.ourse. It might be called something else now...

I'm sure other branches did some renaming of things for morale reasons

No, your ASVAB score is garbage, it is the line scores derived from that score that gets you placed in a job. Saying "I have a XX ASVAB score" doesn't tell me shit. Break down the line scores and that tells you what fields you're allowed to be in.

Right...but that is NCOES. I was saying they get names just for their score on a PT test. Much different. "Hey Bob, are you a lion or a cheeta or a panther?! Aw don't worry about it, everyone is a winner in my eyes!"

Sadly it hasn't changed much. They don't call it the chairforce for no reason. I can't even talk to an old high school buddy of mine because it's like...he gets everything I get for 1/10th the work. It's fucking insane the disparity between the air force and pretty much all the other branches.

Another thing that made me pissed off was watching that show "Carrier" I think it was on NBC or some shit for a time. The amount of bitching and whining out of those people about their "deployment" was fucking insane. I wanted to smash their faces in.

This is ATOT where most of the dudes are borderline Pedos. If she's off the Navy that means she's of age. Doubtful many of the fellas here would want to see her with that being the case. Now if the the thread was titled "my daughter's going away to girl scout camp" it would play out very differently
 
I salute anyone who goes to any form of military service, I know I personally could not do it. Lot of stuff I would not want to give up such as my easy job and home. Thanks to all who have, are and will serve. You are the reason we have what we have.

All of them are. They are designed to get you out of the ME and into the TEAM or WE mindset. It also demonstrates that just because you don't think you can do it doesn't mean that you cannot do it.

It also weeds out the pussies, like the ones you see posting in here about what a bad decision it was etc...
