My dad won't let me get a new computer! :(

If you know anything about fixing computer problems you can easily make way more than at any crappy job if you market yourself right. Spread the word in your neighborhood, stick fliers in mailboxes, or tell your parents to tell their friends.

You'd be surprised at a few things:
1) how many people mess up their computers
2) how many peopel are willing to pay a lot to get their computers working
3) how ridiculous the geeksquad prices are
4) how much money YOU can make doing something you like

If you're really good you can fix the problems quickly and impress the people that hire you. Then they will tell their friends and blah blah blah... and pretty soon you'll say screw school and hire a few people to work with you. Then you profit and buy yourself a new computer.

clean windows around the house and charge $0.25 for each window side, so you get effectively .50 for each window😀.

get a job, tell your dad to fill out some forms so you can work there. and you should be set. Its much better to earn what you want.

LOL, I bought one of those. 🙂 Actually not a bad machine for $400CDN (they were going in the US for < $200 after rebate for a while)... it's a Sempron 3400+ (2.0GHz) on an ASUS board w/ ATI Xpress 200 chipset, 256MB, CD/DVD-ROM and 100GB SATA. I added a spare 485W Enermax NoiseTaker, a spare 512MB DDR400 DIMM (Corsair) and a new Sapphire X1600XT. This little machine hums along quite nicely... extremely stable.

thats a BRILLIANT idea. I might as well try It but i might not be able to trouble ALL problems 🙁. I'm also looking for a job as I'm 15

The best way to get a new one is to work for it. You'll learn to apprecite what you have and what it took to get it.

If you have a MP3 player, USB 1.1 probably drives you nuts. Just pick up a USB 2.0 PCI card. If you don't use the USB ports for large file transfers, about $40 should get you a 512MB stick of RAM. Summer job FTW!

Best advice in the thread!

Step 1: Fill large glass with water.
Step 2: Open PC case.
Step 3: Turn PC power "ON".
Step 4: Pour.
Step 5: Enjoy new computer.

Anyone that would intentionally destroy a computer as decent as OP doesn't deserve any electronic device, let alone a computer. It is not a morality lesson so much as a life/respect lesson. Good job showing your age though...

When did my age come into this discussion??? :disgust: OP requested a solution for destroying his computer, so I gave him one. I didn't give him a morality lesson. If a boss tasks a subordinate to find solutions to a problem, it is the subordinant's job to provide solutions....an additional morality lesson would probably get him fired.

I didn't see the OP asking for a "life/respect" lesson either...but I guess there are those who just cannot resist opening their piehole and giving one, eh?...:disgust:

OP...dumping a handful of small metal shaving onto the powered motherboard should do the trick as well...

or don't use thermal grease on the processor...

BTW, my boss pissed me off today so I am going to go shoot his frickin' poodle...

Anyone want to give me a morality/life/respect lesson before I grease the unlucky canine?

Add a stick of RAM and upgrade that POS video card and you'll be happy with the PC again. For $150...it'll be able to run most of the newer games at decent res./settings and okay FPS.

Meh. It's a poodle. I'll buy the ammo.

As responsible human beings one must give advice thats socially productive, especially since this is a public forum. Businesses are not public forums. They employ on the basis of making profits, not maintaining morality or oftentimes respect of the law. There is no gain in helping someone do something bad for himself and for others.

Hey your comp is good! The cpu is higly overclockable. Still 1800+ runs almost any game.
The only thing that sucks is your graphicscard. Maybe you also 'need' 256 Mb ram too.
Save and buy a graphicscard, oc the cpu and your fine, brat.

Dont belive these "i have tons of money to burn on the latest parts"-guys that buy buy buy!

interesting topic i have a 4x slot too i just dont know for sure the card i should buy would work with the slot
could ur Nvidia GeForce4 MX-4000 run doom 3 or such games .. can it run the game
all i want it to just run the game. I burrowed the game from a friend and it was like a powerpoint show on my intergrated graphics

My boss's poodle met an untimely demise at 5:45pm yesterday...so much for that morality/life/respect lesson I was sooo hoping for....

OP...you grease that PC yet? Git er done!

Since I'm still posting, I guess that I didn't destroy the PC now did I?
Ok, so I guess I'll EARN my next computer by fixing problems and going to the library
Great Idea btw! 🙂

Look guys, I'm not actually going to destroy the machine I built myself, I was just trying to post an interesting topic that's all. And yes USB 1.1 is so irritating!! but i don't think it's worth the extra money. So I guess I'll just wait another year...
