What should I do with it? It's really crap, it is only agp 4x max and has usb 1.0. It's the comp in my siggy. Should I overclock it till it overheats? Should I pull out a CMOS jumper so he'd never know? Take apart the psu and put it back together and hope it works? Try linux?

any other suggestions?

and what new comp should I get? I'll probably keep the case, though it has a huge 'x' on it

Opinions are appreciated! ;)

it will run hl2 fine at 1024x768 high dx7 path with a $30 ram upgrade to at least 512mb. that compy would be like god to me. I used a celeron 466mhz with 96mb ram, dying harddrive and ati rage pro 8mb onboard until april 2005.

I'd say get a job, buy yourself something fast, and donate the slow computer to someone who would appreciate it.

Did your dad pay for the computer? If so, then either be happy and use it as is or go find a job, make your own money and build your own rig. Money doesn't grow on trees.

The mature thing to do would be to talk to your dad about how you can earn some upgrades or an entirely new computer.

Be thankful for what you have. If you want a new computer go get a paper route, do some yardwork, or any part time job for that matter and save it towards a new computer. If you save enough you could purpose to your Dad that you have been working hard and earning money for a computer. Then ask him if he would be willing to help you buy a new computer and you coudl possibly have a monster machine. Best of all your Dad will be happy and proud of your work.

Cool, I have a job that pays a little, but not much. The fast food restaurants won't accept me :(. Oh well, I'll try at the library or something...

Thanks for the opinions guys :)

I paid for the computer, so I still like it because I built it.
The fast food restaurants just ignored my application :( Price Chopper might work though, I have some connections :)

First off, how old are you? The age will limit the options.
<14 years - cut grass, yard work, paint, wash cars (maybe have a "computer club" car wash) , pick up cans or bottles, maybe a newspaper route with a bike.
14- 16 years - maybe some fast food, Dairy Queen, maybe some other local owner franchise/business.
16 years and older- chain restaurants, franchises, summer jobs.
All you need is maybe $500 and watch the Office Depot/Staples/etc or online sales for a ready built computer deal. You'll need to use a credit card for the online deals. I know Office Depot/Compusa/Staples all had $300 computer deals with Semperon CPU's.

Also remember that we remember what our kids ask for and believe it or not you run an additional risk that I will point out to you...

Should anything mysterious happen to your computer even rightly so with no tampering from you -- your dad I promise you will never ever believe that you didn`t cause the problem to happen.

Also have you tried asking your dad to just help you upgrade your computer in exchange for say doing alot of yard work or helping around the house alot more???

It never hurts to ask. Also I have no clue how old you are but it lets your dad know that you are willing to work for any help he might give you.

Its worth a try!!

Good Luck!!

Give him good reasons to upgrade. My dad gave me $1000 last summer to build my first rig so I could have the DIY experience. I learned a lot from this experience. About a year ago, I didn't even know what a CPU was.

If he still won't give in, OC your CPU (but don't kill it), throw in 256MB of RAM, and run games at very low settings.

My computer had a Pentium 3, 512 mb ram, a geforce 2, and I paid for this computer without spending any of my parent's money, you could probobly do it too.

Lol! Ok guys, I have decided to keep the computer and overclock it for fun! Maybe I'll overclock it from 1533mhz to 1650 or maybe more. I think I'll save the money I make from this summer and purchase something then. My dad says that he will let me upgrade before I get to college but that's so far away! (1.5 years) Maybe the comp isn't that bad, it's the best one in the house

Imagine all the sweet computer hardware then! :)

Study your ass off until then. Get into a good college. Dad spoils you with computer. Party hard in college. Get an internship. Buy whatever the hell you want for your comp.
