My Dad is screwing me over again!

2+ months ago my dad offered my sister and i a deal.... Quit work (or work 1-2 days a week) and go back to school fulltime. He would pay all of our bills (cell, gas, insurance, food, CC's, spending money) but we would have to compromise on things like our spending money so we wouldn't have as much as we do while we have been working......

soooooo i get the ball rolling, look into school things, get my paperwork in order, take my assessment tests, get my classes etc. 2 weeks ago he tells me to calculate how much i would need to survive monthly if i did not work. I came up with $830 which he rounded to $900 and says we will talk when he gets back from vacation. He gets back and we meet to discuss the funds and he changes his mind. I START SCHOOL IN 2 WEEKS! I already got work to give me 2 days a week! He says it would be wrong for him to support me for 2 years even with me working 2 days a week. He wants me to work 4 days a week (32 hours a week) and he will give me up to $200 a month to help. I can't go to school fulltime and work that many days/hours! So now with 2 weeks left i am running around trying to talk to financial aid and get a large student loan to life off of but it could take up to 2 months!

MY DAD ALWAYS DOES THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Stop complaining.

i wasn't complaining about the loans i was complaining about my dad but no i would prefer not to take out loans compared to the deal he made me. Also i have never taken out a loan like this, not sure how to go about it, not sure how much they will give me or if it will be enough to live off of and pay my bills every month for a year? 2? 4? while i go to school

and AznAnarchy99 yeah he has screwed me before but not like this. He has always does this to my mom which is why they are not together. Also he wants nothing more than for me to finish school and i finally thought he was going to help out but nope but trust me for now on i know he can do it to me too

Going to school full time and working full time is hard, but it is possible. You just have to suck it up and do it.

I did 16 hours per semester (5 days per week), worked 8.5 hours per day, and drove 140 miles per day while doing it.

It builds character.

i know there are ppl out there that can do it but everyoen i knwo in school, and the school itself, doesn't recommend it. also consider that i have been out of school for 5 years and i am jumping back in fulltime. i would preder for at least the first 6-12 months to focus on school

I was out for 6 years... ;)

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to one-up you, just know that it *is* possible. Screw what the school says. I carried a 4.0 average until one semester where a hurricane wiped out the area and I was hospitalized. Even then I carried a B.

Go for it, dude.

$800 / month for what?

MY expenses...

Rent: 785 / month
Gas: ~120 / month (1 hr drive home, assume biweekly trips home)
Food: $400
Cell: $39.99
Electricity + Comcast ~ $45

So I don't know where your 800 comes from. If your rent is uber cheap, I admire you for spending so little, but I eat like a pig, and so I need lots of money. Even though I don't eat out all that much, I cook + eat breakfast everyday + plenty of fruits.

I work roughly 12 hrs a week which generates $350 per month or so... I spend a chunk of it for myself whether its shopping or whatever, but I keep the rest to lower my parents' expenses.

I get 0 financial aid....

I don't understand how anyone living in Silicon Valley will get financial aid. If just 1 of your parents works in a high tech company, you're already screwed. Your EFC is like 40,000 even if you have 4 people in your household and you're on single income. If you have 2 parents working high tech, your EFC is like 70,000 or more...

Yeah, I thought this was a PAB thread at first, too.

My suggestion would be to rely upon yourself, not your dad, particularly if he insists upon changing the terms of whatever "deal" he offers you. If you are able to succeed on your own, then you are beholden to no one.

Well thing is I live with my mother and sister in my moms house. I do not pay rent so i am good there. I have my cell phone, car insurance, gas, food (which i averaged $6 a day which i know wouldn't really be enough especially since i am on a health food/got a personal trainer thing going, my credit card, WoW account, gym membership, um i think that is it and i put $300 of it for personal spending money. Came out to 830.

My parents are divorced, my mom makes like $46k a year i think? my dad makes FAR more but on paper he makes a lot less than my mom. However i am a Veteran and i was told because of that status i will not be considered a dependant of anyone so i can file for everything my financial aid and loans as if i lived alone with no support

You're gonna work, go to school, stay fit, AND play WoW at the same time? Good luck. :p Time to sort out your priorities, drop WoW first. :D

I suggest you move to Greece, my friend. Trust me, your Dad is not screwing you over, again and again. Most men cannot leave Greece, since they can't leave their brothers behind. :)
