My dad got a racoon trap

Yesterday my dad brings home a MADE IN THE USA racoon trap cage. We have grapes, cherries, raspberries, and peaches in the backyard, and something is consuming them. Also some sort of animal keeps digging under our fence to get in.

Im just wondering what my dad is going to do when he actually traps a racoon? Russian style fur hats ftw?

Though they make them big enough to catch dogs, I only own a medium (Cat) sized one. I have caught almost everything in my trap, Raccoons, Opossums, Squirrels, tons of Cats, and Armadillos. I always let the wildlife go and find homes for the stray kittens.

There are several MADE IN THE USA animal traps. Not all are created equal.

[*] Hav-A-Heart is the most common (I have one, it was cheap)

[*]Tomahawk Live Trap (USA Made, lots of trapping related products)

[*] The one considered best is made by Tru-Catch, they are soft vinyl coated to protect the animal, allow for both ends to be open (to encourage him to enter), allows for easy access by handlers, and most importantly it is silent. Other traps make a snap noise and this alerts other critters you may want to catch that they need to steer clear of it. Such noises scare away wildlife. Tru-catch traps are well constructed and expensive, but you get what you pay for.

Some others, I don't know much about:
Safeguard Products (USA Made)

How to make your own:

And for the insane, bear traps.

I've talked to people who've eaten raccoon. They enjoyed it. I'd use the same selection process that I use for rabbits, go for a young healthy one free of parasites.

Lol Ill pass, the most extreme things Ive eaten is moose and deer, and it tasted alright I must admit, but not something I would have on a day to day basis. I won't even eat rabit, not because I feel bad, just that it tastes nasty.

You should try eating rabbit instead of rabit. Rabbit meat is very lean and takes on the flavor of what you cook it with.

Rabbit taste nasty? Do you have any taste buds?

good luck. those coons are pretty darn smart. My friend has been trying to trap two of them for a year with no luck. They've been going into his backyard and eating his koi in his pond. They've eaten all the food in his trap without getting caught. We know the trap works great because he's caught everything else; birds, squirrels, rabbits, and even a skunk!

Release them on the property of your enemies.

Raccoons are vicious little bastards. No matter how cute they look, do NOT attempt to pet or otherwise interface with the raccoon.

Best solution? Kill the fuckers. I grew up a little ways out in the country and we always had problems with sick / lame coons.

agreed...a raccoon will beat up a dog 3 times its size. a caged one is dangerous.

Wow so far, 1 massive racoon, released 20 km from here, and the next day a massive rodent that looks like a rat sort of, with a huge tail, but I am pretty sure it is not a rat. Anyways Ive never seen something like it till it was in the cage.

Im going to get 2 more of these traps just in case there is a huge diasaster of some sort and food supply is cut. Then I can have racoon soup every day while everyone else scours for food!

I got one of those traps a while back after continually seeing raccoons in our yard. The only things I caught were a scared bunny, a pissed off squirrel, and my embarrassed dog

My grandfather use to drive them about five or six miles away and drop them off in the forest preserve.

Normally I would say just shoot it with a .22 and dump it in the woods or something, but this is a golden opportunity.

Take it to the humane society and give it to them 😀
