Well at least you're still a virgin.

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

Are you referring to this thread? Sorry, I never bothered to update that one 😀 😉

And yes, I am alive. And I am an atheist (whoever said agnosticism is just a stop on the path to atheism was right). I go to church every week because "its my house my rules" but other than that I just don't really talk about religion with my dad anymore. He is too far gone to waste my time with. I'm just going to use this experience to better myself when I'm a father.

BTW, this thread is fucking old.

Thanks for the update, d00d 🙂

 you actually sound really rational and mature for a teenager

Here's a little background. I'm currently 15 and I grew up Catholic. I faithfully attended mass every Sunday (and sometimes Saturday) since I was young. Around the age of 13 is when I started actually thinking about my faith. I reasoned that there is no way of knowing whether there is a God or not. I became agnostic, however I didn't tell my dad and I continued to participate in mass.

So anyway, a while back I had bookmarked this site. Then this afternoon my dad, unbeknown to me, got on my computer to use the internet and "stumbled" (snooped) upon the bookmark. He confronted me about it and said that he does not want websites like this to corrupt me. I told him that the website had nothing to do with it, that I had decided on my own that I was agnostic quite a while ago. I told him I had avoided telling him in fear of his reaction, but he wouldn't have any of it.

Now I don't know how I can mend my relationship with my dad.

your dad is an idiot, if he cares that much about religion, he's not worth it.

Tell your dad to "grow up".

I agree, 100%.

Daddy needs to grow the F up.

If the religion means more to his father than he does, his father doesn't deserve to have him.

Edit: My advice? Just move on with your life; concentrate on what makes you happy.

OP: sorry to hear that things went down the shitter. i guess i lucked out and even though my parents are fairly religious, my dad realized that it wasn't going to do much good to debate with me.

Is that the same as being young and emo? It certainly sounds like it, since at the ripe old age of 13 I really doubt you had the experience and the reasoning powers to decide whether there is a God or not. You may think you do, but you don't.

Neither Experience nor Reason can ascertain the existance of a "god".

edit: Crap read through 3 pages(50 posts/page) bbefore realizing this was a long dead thread.

More proof that there is no "god".

Your confusion with the word "lie" happens after the word is translated from Latin. Prior to translation, there's no question about what's meant.

And after the Latin was translated from the Greek, after the Greek was translated from the Aramaic.

the old testament was not written in aramaic, it was written in hebrew.
