I've been trying to get him to get one for AGES, but he's consistantly refused. However, something appears to have made him change his mind - he called and told me he'd received it in the mail today, and was wondering why Walmart wouldn't let him use it as a credit card and it kept asking for his PIN (he hasn't received the PIN yet, they mail it seperate from the card)

rofl. He's joined the 20th century now.

You don't need PIN to use a check card... select credit card option.

You can't at Walmart. It autoselects for you, and the cashier can't override. It's cost savings on their part, since YOU get charged for the transaction instead of them.

Maybe at your retard Walmart, but I've never had a problem using debit as credit at Walmart.

I use my check card all the time at Wal-Mart. I always select "credit" and the transaction is processed like a regular credit card.

Several of the Wal mart's i've been to default to debit and you must first hit cancel and then it will let you select credit.

I don't get charged when I use my debit card. It may actually be cheaper for the merchant to run it as a CC rather than a debit card for smaller purchases..(less fees).

Great now I gotta try this to see if it works or not.

Normally I use my CitiBank cc since it offers 1% cash back but now I'm curious.

Wow i'm surprised you've never done this. I always say credit just so i don't have to go through typing in my pin. i'd rather sign the reciept anyway.

We usually shop at CostCo or Target and we always use credit card instead of debit card.

I thought Citi Dividend Platinum Select gives 5% cashback on supermarket, drugstore, and gas station purchases. I use that when I go grocery shopping. AMEX TrueEarnings for Costco and eating out.

Correct but I don't think Walmart falls into the "supermarket" category (although they do sell groceries), I could be wrong.

Stores no, but some local fast food places charge between $0.50 and $1.50 to use your debt card! They don't get my business.

My dad didn't have a credit or ATM card until a few years ago. When he traded in the old singlewide mobile home (yes I lived there for two years in high school, the shame) for a new luxury doublewide manufactured home he had trouble getting insurance because there was no credit history for him.

He finally got a visa card before going on vacation to Europe.

Mine? He paid cash for everything. Growing up we didn't have anything new. Used cars, used mobile home, Black and White TV, all paid in cash so no debt. I had to buy my own clothes and food if I didn't want to eat stuff from bulk foods store. He hoarded money so if something big came up, like having to spend my college fund on my mothers broken foot because he was too cheap to carry health insurance, well then at least it didn't go on a credit card!
