to my video card. My crt will make a popping noise and then shut off. I have to press the button a few times for it to come back on. Could that be the cause for my 6600gt catching fire last week? I only have $200 to either replace the card or find a decent LCD for about $240.

no . . . the Video card is outputting to the Display.

make sure your power cable and VGA cables are secure. And Degauss.

Then look in Hot Deals . . . some good ones for LCD.

How the heck did your 6600GT catch fire?
Did you OC it to like 750 on the core and 2000 effective on the memory or something?

It's not the CRT that's dying if your card caught on fire. It is your video card that needs replaced.

Hey OP !! Any decent PSU will shut down in the event of a shorted circuit.

I would most strongly suggest taking a long hard look at your PSU before throwing another VGA card in there.

burning card discussion

The psu did shut down. I do not overclock. I just want to make sure that another card will not do the same, although I have been using a refurb 6600td without a problem except for the monitor's popping noises and having to press the power button three times before getting a picture.
