I actually did something similiar except i was upfront about it to my supervisor. I told her that I wanted to work at this place for the summer and asked if I could take a leave of absence. She allowed it.. and I worked may-August there and came back in september to the old job 🙂

the guy has ballz to try and crawl back...

meh, when you leave on good terms, don't bad mouth anybody and simply say "I'd like to pursue other challenges" then you leave with the door still open and bridges aren't burnt.

you're gonna be known as the guy who thought you were better than everyone else and tried to move on. Either that or they think that you just couldn't hack it. Either way... hahaha (while pointing the finger).

your coworker has either
1) plenty of guts/confidence
2) no shame

and your boss must be cool to let this happen.

It's not my boss. He is in another division. I think he tried to get a 3 month no-pay vacation. But somehow it didn't get thru, so he was kinda pissed. Also he didn't like the area that much. I don't know why he left the new company tho. have to find out.

quickest I've seen was a half day.

Guy came in and we showed him his office...he left at lunch saying he accepted another position.

That guy will never work in this town again. Talk about burning a bridge.

While working for my first employer, we had a new employee who started on a Monday and one day later in the week, left for lunch at her normal time. She never returned, never called, etc. I wonder if they even paid her for her two or three days of work since they couldn't get in touch with her... I think she had a run-in with the program manager who got on the nerves of every female employee, couldn't handle it anymore, and just left. This guy was the direct and/or indirect cause of about five women, including a friend of mine, leaving the company.

A coworker of mine went on vacation for 30 days, then to make a long story short, word comes back to his boss through some common friends that he's working at another company.
So he was "test driving" the new job to see which one he liked more. Needless to say, he got fired, and left on bad terms.

But I've seen people leave for a few months and come back, without any problems. You just have to be upfront and honest about it. Don't drop your work without either finishing it or doing a TOI to a new hire. Just don't screw your company on the way out, and it's no problem coming back.

We had a girl leave and come back after a month. Since her position was still open and they were just making the other girls do her work they gladly hired her back. She was on good terms but another one that tried the same thing didn't get the same treatment because she burned her bridges. Ironically that one ended up working in the building next door to ours and I still see her all of the time because she's friends with people here.

Back to my first employer, there was one employee who left the company twice to work for another company, only to tell my employer they'd come back if they matched their salary from the new employer. This employee pulled this stunt twice and my employer took her back twice!!! To make matters worse, the company she screwed over to get the pay raise from the original employer the first time also hired her the second time she pulled that stunt!!!

he probably got a big fat raise and a bonus in the process...so....

hahahha

😉

One guy left our shop for greener pastures. He came back after a few months. He was greeted at the time clock the first day back, by about 15 guys on their knees, pretending to be begging for a job. 😛
